Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

He Is Behind You

In full Christmas tradition, Panto came to Ashcombe house, residents enjoyed a theatre performance of Dick Whittington with cast members from Carousel theatre. With songs, stories and one liners everyone enjoyed the panto. It brought back lots of fond memories for residents and they finished the performance with singing carols and enjoying refreshments with us.

Beavers Takeover

Our local Beaver group visited with 22 under 8’s to earn their community badge. Beavers sang to residents and assisted with suppertime. The Beavers had a tour of the home and enjoyed meeting residents in their rooms. One resident Joe was a scout himself and told the Beavers that with the skills he learnt ‘set him up for life’.

There was lots of questions and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit and cannot wait until they visit again.

Keeping Fit

A new fitness instructor came to Ashcombe to put our residents through their paces! With sing along music and an array of props residents really enjoyed shaking the pom poms to well know tunes. Janet from Move It provided the residents with a full body workout adjusting exercises for those with limited mobility. Janet will be coming to Ashcombe fortnightly to provide exercises.

Wear It Pink Day

Residents and staff joined in with Wear it Pink day, raising awareness for Breast Cancer. Everyone donated in order to wear something pink for the day, the morning was spent enjoying tea, coffee and freshly baked cakes.

In the afternoon we had a team quiz of everything pink. We managed to raise a good amount of money and the residents were pleased to be involved with supporting such a worthwhile cause.

Knit & Natter Group

Residents and visitors enjoyed our newly established Knit & Natter Group. Carol and Isabelle from the United Reform Church visit us every Tuesday Morning at 11 am.

The group share knitting patterns, craft ideas, materials, books and more importantly plenty of knatter! The group has been going for 6 weeks now and already one resident has almost completed knitted stockings for every resident at Ashcombe.

Even the men have become involved making pom poms and other decorations we are not sure if it was the chat or the wonderful cakes we share which encouraged them to join us!

Talk Like a Pirate Day , Talk Like a Pirate Day

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Full fancy dress, pirate games and singing entertainment was enjoyed by all, pirate phrases and knowledge of pirates was tested.

Anthony Allgood in full pirate dress entertained us with songs adapted for pirates, staff and residents had a fabulous time and luckily no one had to walk the plank!
