Dementia Care
St Thomas has a dedicated Memory Lane Community that provides a safe, homely environment for people living with dementia, which has been designed following these guidelines ensuring the care we provide supports residents’ freedom of choice. We aim to maintain their life-skills, improving their self-esteem and helping them to maintain and develop their independence while they are living with us.
Staff undertake specialist dementia care training developed by our team of Dementia Care Specialists and academic partners, the Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett University. Together they ensure our training programmes are informed by the very latest thinking. We ensure that the people we support feel comfortable and safe in their surrounding environment, helping ensure they live life with dementia to the full.
Choosing a care home for a loved one or friend who may be experiencing dementia can be difficult and we have created a guide to showcase how we ‘Enrich the lives of people living with dementia’ in our care home.
We aim to improve the quality of life for every resident living in our home. Our commitment to the individuals we support can be seen across the board, not only in our care, but in our cooking, hospitality and activities. Our skilled chefs are passionate about providing nutritious and delicious meals, whilst our full-time activities coordinators organise an extensive activities programme, with something to every residents' interests and needs.
We think you’ll find us ideally suited to meet your needs, so why not arrange a visit and experience our home for yourself?
Types of care
We provide care for people living with dementia, and the first step to providing support is by getting to know who they are. Dementia is something they live with but is not what defines them as a person; we aim to encourage and empower those we support and help them maintain as much independence as possible through a range of meaningful care and lifestyle activities.

Our Team
Maggie Zbroch
Hello, my name is Maggie and I am the General Manager here at St Thomas. Welcome to our website!
My experience shows me that sharing love and providing a person centred approach can have great therapeutic results, making people comfortable and happy. My team and I bring this approach in to the daily care of our residents here at St Thomas’s care home, seeing my residents smile always make me smile.
Qualifying as a Nurse in 2012 at London University, I started my career at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on the orthopaedic and surgical wards, advancing to Senior Clinical and then Ward Manager. Experience on an acute elderly ward increased my passion for elderly and dementia care. This is when I decided to move into the private care sector.
I believe the care home environment is the best place for me to deliver person centered dementia care and implement great practice, in a homely environment that is supporting residents to live a fulfilled life. This also gives me the chance to work closely with loved ones to ensure they are sharing a happy journey along side their relative.
I chose to come to Barchester as I felt their values matched mine when it came to providing high quality care in the luxury environment that all our residents deserve.
I joined St Thomas' care home after a professional visit where I fell in the love with the home and its residents and decided that I wanted to continue my career here.
I am very excited for the future of the home, I love our unique chapel and beautiful gardens.
My door is always open for residents and families so please feel free to come by.
