What our families say on

"Me and my mother cannot recommend this home enough. After a bad experience, my grandma was placed here and we both saw a rapid improvement in her mental and physical health and happiness. My grandma spent her last few years being loved and cared for by the amazing staff. I honestly believe this love and care gave her more years with us and for that, we are eternally grateful. It is a beautiful place and lots of activities and places to sit and walk about, especially for my grandma who loved to walk."

"My mother has been very unwell recently, all the staff have been kind, caring and thoughtful. The home is well maintained the staff go out of their way to help and have the ability to recognise an individual persons needs. I am pleased we chose Barchester St Thomas for Mum."

"Very sound management who succeed to a very great degree. Rooms are very comfortable and perfectly suitable for their purpose. Apart from one very disappointing first lunchtime, meals are varied and well-presented with good quantity and choice of food. Staff are, on the whole, very friendly and helpful, apart from one or two who could show a little more enthusiasm. The care home, which is well set out, seems ideally set out as a nursing home and should prove very attractive to those seeking a refuge for patients with Alzheimer's."

"We are a group who have known each other for over fifty years, who were sad to hear our friend was involved in a hit-and-run accident a year ago. After an active life, living alone in a house with two extensive gardens, cycling 100 kilometres a day and visiting each of us regularly, memory issues now made living alone difficult. Initially, the care home he was sent to for evaluation was far from ideal. We looked at several care homes in the area. St Thomas Care Home was the best, with bright, airy rooms surrounding a large central garden. The facilities are pleasant, and the food is good. However, it is the attitude of the staff where the home excels. They dealt with a difficult transfer from the previous home with care and patience. They have gone the extra mile to help our friend, providing him maximum freedom to do what he wants and letting him do work in the garden. The staff are always cheerful and supportive. Our friend now strongly expresses a wish to remain at St. Thomas."

"To start with, the manager welcomes with a beautiful smile. I was humbled with the welcome l was given by both the management team and staff. The resident looked so happy and the place is amazingly beautiful. It smelt fresh throughout the entire building. The care for residents is prioritised greatly. I would recommend this care home anytime. It's good beautiful and well-managed."

"Unfortunately, my mum needed full-time dementia care. It was such a hard decision and a worrying one too. We were recommended St Thomas and the manager and the staff put us at ease straight away. My mum has now been there for over a month and she has settled right in. I have total peace of mind. They look after her in the best way possible. She gets involved in the lovely activities they have, sits in the beautiful gardens, loves the food and has made friends. The care team are second to none. Always checking on her, making cups of tea, helping and really giving them the best quality of life you could hope for with this terrible disease. I would recommend St Thomas to anyone in our situation in a heartbeat. Everything we have requested whether it be to put a picture up, a TV in the room, hairdresser it’s done without question. My mum always looks lovely and presentable every day which shows me how much they care and have listened to our requests. Thank you."

"The staff are friendly, approachable, patient and caring. They put my husband's needs and safety first, and I trust them to care for him. The manager is really welcoming and is involved with the care of the residents. There is good communication between staff and myself. The building is impressive and comfortable and is kept very clean. The garden is a safe, calm place. A bonus!"

"Mum had a series of falls last year and was diagnosed with slight dementia. She was in hospital for two months and became frail, could no longer walk and totally incontinent. She was then transferred to Barchester St Thomas Care Home where she has flourished! The family and myself no longer have to worry about Mum not eating as the food is amazing. The care she receives daily is amazing and many of the staff genuinely love Mum. Entertainment and mental stimulation is greatly encouraged. Security is very good, cleanliness, laundry and day-to-day care are good. The staff are very approachable."

"First-rate reception. Staff were very good. I was always kept in the picture as to what was going on within the care home. I never had any fears that my partner was not safe in the care home."

"The loving care given to our mum by all the staff is amazing. We don't have to worry if we can't get up to see her one day as everyone loves her like us."

"To say I was nervous about coming to an establishment such as yours, I needn't have worried. The staff are very kind, some go way above what one would expect. The whole home is geared towards the care of your guests. My stay is only temporary but should I need more long term, this would be my first choice."

"We called on the off chance of booking a visit with our friends, due to us being stuck abroad for over 8 months. In lockdown, we had not seen either of them since the previous October. The staff at the home were brilliant and cheerful and we were thrilled to go through the system to enable us to go through the system, to enable us to spend time with our friends there and then. Can't speak highly enough of the staff and management team."

"My aunt has been a resident for nearly five years, in which time, she has been well cared for. I have found the staff to be very friendly and easy to approach. The last 18-month have been very difficult for staff, residents and family, and I feel the home has done a wonderful job keeping everyone safe and have been impressed how they have handled visiting for families."

"My aunt has been at Barchester St Thomas Care Home care for a couple of weeks now and I’ve noticed a huge change in her well-being the staff are really caring and it’s also so nice and comforting to know. The manager pops in to see her and makes her laugh. The home held a bbq on Saturday 24th it was absolutely fantastic sat out in the garden and had good entertainment well done staff at St Thomas looking forward to more family engagements."

Paul T rating: 4.5 out of 5

"My mother has been a resident for about 2 years, the staff have always been friendly and professional, when Mum was first there she was very active and a member of staff was always with her and I never got the feeling that they had a problem with that, unlike a previous home, when mum has been unwell they have always kept me updated about mums condition and have discussed the issues with me. In the past year, the staff have gone out of their way to help me to visit mum for which I am very grateful."

David rating: 4.58 out of 5

"We, as a family, would like to thank the home for looking after my mother-in-law. She arrived at the home bedbound and on a puree diet from a previous home and hospital stay. She is now back walking and on a normal diet. A better quality of life."

"St Thomas is a lovely home for residents, a nice clean place. Staff are hard-working, lovely, happy people. Takes some time to get used to when booking a visit on the website but got it now. Staff have put up with my moans about visiting times. All in all a wonderful home, excellent staff."

"Our mother moved into St Thomas Care Home on 1st November 2020. She settled very quickly and is very happy with the care and attention she is receiving - she always says the "girls are lovely" when talking about the staff. She enjoys the food as well as the numerous activities facilitated at the home. Any issues and concerns have been dealt with in an extremely professional and efficient way by the staff."

"Both my parents are in St. Thomas (Basingstoke), I could not ask for better care. My mum has been in bed for most of the three years and has never had a bedsore. The staff always keep me updated with what's going on. I am so grateful to the management and all the staff that are putting their lives on the line at this moment in time. Thank you."

B S rating: 4.58 out of 5

"I would certainly recommend this care home. The staff are friendly and caring and efficient. Rooms are clean and bright and gardens lovely for patients to walk around. Nursing staff are always quick to notify you of any change relating to patient. My husband looks upon St Thomas as "his home"."

Sheila R rating: 5 out of 5

"We have always found St Thomas Care Home to be excellent. It is secure and very clean with a homely and happy atmosphere. The management and staff are well organised, supportive, compassionate and nothing is too much trouble. The food menu is varied catering for all tastes and looks appetising. There is a good range of activities which often reflect special dates throughout the year, where the residents are encouraged to interact. When visiting you are always made to feel welcome hence making the visit to see your loved one very enjoyable."

N M rating: 4.67 out of 5

"I was so nervous, guilty and anxious about putting my father into residential care but I needn't have been. He was made to feel very welcome and has settled in just right. He has loads of space to roam freely (still being watched though) which suits him just fine. He is definitely in the right place for him."

Debbie W rating: 4.75 out of 5

"Both my parents are in St Thomas Care Home and I couldn't ask for better care. My Mum has been in bed for two and a half years and has never had a bedsore. I know they are both looked after."

K H rating: 4.55 out of 5

"The staff are very friendly and helpful to all of us, especially to my Dad who visits daily. The home has a nice feel about it and we are lucky to have it just down the road, so my Dad still feels close to my Mum."

D C rating: 4.67 out of 5

"My wife and I have been visiting St Thomas to see our friend at least twice a week since June 2018. We liken the home to a 4-5 star hotel for its atmosphere in all areas such as lounges, dining rooms and also its food quality. We are constantly impressed by the efficient manner in which the staff at all levels perform their duties. Their dedication to the care and welfare of the residents is worthy of the highest commendation and we have never seen or heard anything of a derogatory nature, worthy of complaint. In addition, we are impressed with the friendliness shown towards us by all the staff, who always greet us with a smile, as indeed they also do when dealing with the residents. Well done St Thomas."

"I am made very welcome by staff when I visit - they are courteous and kind, both to me and my husband. He is recently in bed (11am) when I call and I know he has medical problems which I am confident staff understand. He has to be got out of bed by hoist now. A wheelchair is used to get him around because now he is so unsteady. When I stay over lunchtime I help feed him. He doesn't speak much but, staff do keep a watchful eye on him as he is so unsteady. Lovely to see tablecloths and napkins - bibs are supplied when required. The activities for exercise are sympathetically done - husband benefitted even when just watching. It is nice to sit and view the garden together; doors, of course, are mostly shut. St Thomas's refurbishment is excellent - my husband likes the little chapel coffee shop -fresh coffee and cakes!"

"My uncle became a resident in August of 2018 as he could not look after himself any more due to the fact that he had dementia and was forgetting basic things like eating and washing and a major thing of not taking his medication. Since he has been there my sister and myself no longer have to worry on a daily basis, he is getting all the care that he could hope for."

Kim W rating: 5 out of 5

"My Dad came to the care home in March. His care was good to start with, but due to my Dad's health, he is now on puree food, was very upset to find my Dad being given solid food. I have also found when I arrive in the evening, residents are being left alone and no carer in sight, which is disappointing. There has been one carer who will go above and beyond to help, a wonderful carer."

Debra R rating: 2.75 out of 5

"Nursing care of my mum is very good. I know that she is safe and being looked after. The food is fairly good and they are improving on the activities. The facilities are being improved due to the current project to update the fixtures and fittings. The nurses and carers take time to take care of the medical and personal care and make the residents feel calmer and looked after."

Louise B rating: 3.83 out of 5

"It would be good to have some stackable chairs that visitors can go and get to sit on when visiting."

D C rating: 4.42 out of 5

"I have always found the home well kept and very clean and tidy, the staff and management are very pleasant at all times, any complaints are dealt with very quickly. I think personally that the home is a very well organised establishment. I couldn't wish for a better home for my wife's care and support."

Michael John F rating: 4.67 out of 5

"St Thomas Care Home was my Mum's home through her final years. The feeling of love and support throughout was unquestionable and the connection that the staff had with Mum was lovely as well as incredibly comforting for us as a family. The most important thing for us was that it should feel homely and that Mum should be as settled as possible and I never doubted that for a second during the time she was there. Nobody wishes to see their relative's health reach the point when they need to go into a care home but, if that time is coming, then rest assured that the team at St Thomas will do everything they can to get to know the person and do everything in their power to make sure they are as happy and well cared for as possible. I know that they helped make Mum's final years happy for her and we'll be forever thankful to them for that as we could not have asked for more. For us, choosing St Thomas was definitely the right decision."

Jonathan H rating: 4.89 out of 5

"First visit to the home. Lovely welcoming home. Staff friendly and residents looked happy. Beautiful garden and lots of communal areas around the home. So nice to see my lifelong friend so settled and happy."

Helen W rating: 4.5 out of 5

"The home has a welcoming atmosphere. Staff are generally courteous, considerate and friendly in their observed interactions with residents and visitors alike. They treat my mother with respect for her dignity and privacy. The staff know my mother by name and when we walk in will immediately tell us where she is before we can ask e.g "She's in the garden". We like being able to make ourselves a cup of tea/coffee at will and enjoy the excellent cakes made in the kitchen."

Roderick B rating: 4.67 out of 5

"I really don't know how the staff coped with my husband today as he was in a funny mood. He has only been here for nearly three weeks but in that time the staff have been fantastic to him. He found his stay in hospital something he couldn't cope with but since he has been here he has settled better despite the occasional outburst he really is a different person."

Pat H rating: 5 out of 5

"My sister has been a resident for almost 5 years and in that time we have always found the care home to progressively improve. The staff are possibly your greatest asset. Their friendly ways and despite everything they have to do they manage to find time to assist when asked. I hope that if I need a care home in the future I will be treated in the same way. Thank you for all you do."

"Unique home in it's design and layout. The Chapel is a wonderful place to spend some quiet time. Friendly, caring staff where nothing is too much trouble. Delicious food and cakes galore. My friend has flourished here and is so happy and settled."

Lucy T rating: 4.5 out of 5

"We were made so welcome as we first arrived. The staff were such happy people, I would be happy to stay here if I needed to when I can no longer stay in my own house. I would recommend it to anyone. I can't say enough good things. The chapel is a lovely quiet place to sit and be calm."

"My lovely partner is very happy here, everyone has been so very caring, warm and happy. It's made a very difficult time so easy and I know he is safe whilst I'm at work. I can come and see him whenever I want and I always receive a warm welcome. Thank you."

Gary J rating: 4 out of 5

"We wish we could give my Dad personal care 24 hours a day ourselves, but we can't. This is as good a substitute as we are likely to find anywhere. The staff do an excellent job on the whole, in difficult situations and are genuinely caring. Considering my Dad is not the only one they are preoccupied with, as we are, I think they are to be commended. Occasionally we find fault, as is only to be expected, but on the whole, I only have praise."

"Mum moved into St Thomas Care Home and has settled in really well. Carers are lovely and attentive. Mum did have a fall in the garden and was left for up to 30 minutes but they acted on their mistake and all is fine."

Beryl M rating: 4.5 out of 5

"I find my wife is being well cared for. She is apparently quite chatty with the staff, but I don't think she talks to the other residents, but I don't see her all day. She does seem to lose her footwear a lot. She does thankfully remember me and our son and daughter, even their dog. When I saw her today, she was lucid but a little tired. I am still concerned about her drooping posture. She is as well as can be expected."

Frank T rating: 4.75 out of 5

"The home is not ultra modern, but it has a friendly, homely feel to it. My sister seems to enjoy her meals and gets good support from staff. Also, there is a good rapport between her and staff."

Peter C rating: 3.67 out of 5

"The staff look after my husband very well if something happens to him like a fall or he has knocked himself etc, the home contact me immediately. The food is a little bit samey but it is wholesome and my husband eats well. The management is always looking for ways to improve the home. At all times the staff and management are happy to hear any concerns I have."

F C rating: 4.08 out of 5

"St Thomas Care Home is a well run nursing home with lots of friendly staff who take a care in their work. With most of them going beyond the call of duty. The residents are well looked after and it's a far better nursing home than most in the local area."

G C rating: 4.83 out of 5

"Since the new manager has taken over the change is very noticeable. The home looks cleaner, tidier and great notice boards. Carers seem happier. Mum's care is better overall, meals are great, Mum loves them. Carers are eager to help. I feel listened to if any problems occur."

Christine S rating: 4.25 out of 5

"We were always impressed with the level of quality and care and very few occasions to raise any concerns. When we did, they were listened to and dealt with quickly and appropriately. Wonderful staff and we are very appreciative of the care and support given. Exceptional care at a very sad time."

To the manager and all the staff,
Thank you all so much for your friendhsip and care you gave to Raymond and myself over the past four and a half years. Its hard for me to break the habit of coming in to spend every afternoon with him.
Thank you again for all your kindess.
Best wishes to you all and have a lovely Christmas

"My sister has been at the home for 3 years. The staff are always kind and caring and patient. The new manager is always there to talk to and has really made a difference to the home. It looks and smells much better."

A W rating: 4.92 out of 5

"We visited many homes in the area before choosing St Thomas. We did so because from the minute we walked into the lovely old building, we were welcomed by everyone we came into contact with - the managers, nurses, cleaners, everyone. It has a lovely calm and relaxing atmosphere and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. Our uncle is well looked after and constantly entertained. He has made many new friends and we feel relieved he is happy and content. The food, since the new head chef has started work has improved significantly and on many occasions, we have chosen to eat at the home and have been made to feel welcome when we have. One of the very few criticisms we do have is that the carpets in his room and in many other areas could do with replacing. They are clean but have seen better days."
