"We were always impressed with the level of quality and care and very few occasions to raise any concerns. When we did, they were listened to and dealt with quickly and appropriately. Wonderful staff and we are very appreciative of the care and support given. Exceptional care at a very sad time."

"We visited many homes in the area before choosing St Thomas. We did so because from the minute we walked into the lovely old building, we were welcomed by everyone we came into contact with - the managers, nurses, cleaners, everyone. It has a lovely calm and relaxing atmosphere and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. Our uncle is well looked after and constantly entertained. He has made many new friends and we feel relieved he is happy and content. The food, since the new head chef has started work has improved significantly and on many occasions, we have chosen to eat at the home and have been made to feel welcome when we have. One of the very few criticisms we do have is that the carpets in his room and in many other areas could do with replacing. They are clean but have seen better days."

"Since the new manager has taken over the change is very noticeable. The home looks cleaner, tidier and great notice boards. Carers seem happier. Mum's care is better overall, meals are great, Mum loves them. Carers are eager to help. I feel listened to if any problems occur."

"St Thomas Care Home is a well run nursing home with lots of friendly staff who take a care in their work. With most of them going beyond the call of duty. The residents are well looked after and it's a far better nursing home than most in the local area."

"The staff look after my husband very well if something happens to him like a fall or he has knocked himself etc, the home contact me immediately. The food is a little bit samey but it is wholesome and my husband eats well. The management is always looking for ways to improve the home. At all times the staff and management are happy to hear any concerns I have."

"I find my wife is being well cared for. She is apparently quite chatty with the staff, but I don't think she talks to the other residents, but I don't see her all day. She does seem to lose her footwear a lot. She does thankfully remember me and our son and daughter, even their dog. When I saw her today, she was lucid but a little tired. I am still concerned about her drooping posture. She is as well as can be expected."

"Mum moved into St Thomas Care Home and has settled in really well. Carers are lovely and attentive. Mum did have a fall in the garden and was left for up to 30 minutes but they acted on their mistake and all is fine."

"We wish we could give my Dad personal care 24 hours a day ourselves, but we can't. This is as good a substitute as we are likely to find anywhere. The staff do an excellent job on the whole, in difficult situations and are genuinely caring. Considering my Dad is not the only one they are preoccupied with, as we are, I think they are to be commended. Occasionally we find fault, as is only to be expected, but on the whole, I only have praise."

"We were made so welcome as we first arrived. The staff were such happy people, I would be happy to stay here if I needed to when I can no longer stay in my own house. I would recommend it to anyone. I can't say enough good things. The chapel is a lovely quiet place to sit and be calm."

"My sister has been a resident for almost 5 years and in that time we have always found the care home to progressively improve. The staff are possibly your greatest asset. Their friendly ways and despite everything they have to do they manage to find time to assist when asked. I hope that if I need a care home in the future I will be treated in the same way. Thank you for all you do."

"I really don't know how the staff coped with my husband today as he was in a funny mood. He has only been here for nearly three weeks but in that time the staff have been fantastic to him. He found his stay in hospital something he couldn't cope with but since he has been here he has settled better despite the occasional outburst he really is a different person."

"The home has a welcoming atmosphere. Staff are generally courteous, considerate and friendly in their observed interactions with residents and visitors alike. They treat my mother with respect for her dignity and privacy. The staff know my mother by name and when we walk in will immediately tell us where she is before we can ask e.g "She's in the garden". We like being able to make ourselves a cup of tea/coffee at will and enjoy the excellent cakes made in the kitchen."

"St Thomas Care Home was my Mum's home through her final years. The feeling of love and support throughout was unquestionable and the connection that the staff had with Mum was lovely as well as incredibly comforting for us as a family. The most important thing for us was that it should feel homely and that Mum should be as settled as possible and I never doubted that for a second during the time she was there. Nobody wishes to see their relative's health reach the point when they need to go into a care home but, if that time is coming, then rest assured that the team at St Thomas will do everything they can to get to know the person and do everything in their power to make sure they are as happy and well cared for as possible. I know that they helped make Mum's final years happy for her and we'll be forever thankful to them for that as we could not have asked for more. For us, choosing St Thomas was definitely the right decision."

"My Dad came to the care home in March. His care was good to start with, but due to my Dad's health, he is now on puree food, was very upset to find my Dad being given solid food. I have also found when I arrive in the evening, residents are being left alone and no carer in sight, which is disappointing. There has been one carer who will go above and beyond to help, a wonderful carer."

"Nursing care of my mum is very good. I know that she is safe and being looked after. The food is fairly good and they are improving on the activities. The facilities are being improved due to the current project to update the fixtures and fittings. The nurses and carers take time to take care of the medical and personal care and make the residents feel calmer and looked after."

"My uncle became a resident in August of 2018 as he could not look after himself any more due to the fact that he had dementia and was forgetting basic things like eating and washing and a major thing of not taking his medication. Since he has been there my sister and myself no longer have to worry on a daily basis, he is getting all the care that he could hope for."

"I am made very welcome by staff when I visit - they are courteous and kind, both to me and my husband. He is recently in bed (11am) when I call and I know he has medical problems which I am confident staff understand. He has to be got out of bed by hoist now. A wheelchair is used to get him around because now he is so unsteady. When I stay over lunchtime I help feed him. He doesn't speak much but, staff do keep a watchful eye on him as he is so unsteady. Lovely to see tablecloths and napkins - bibs are supplied when required. The activities for exercise are sympathetically done - husband benefitted even when just watching. It is nice to sit and view the garden together; doors, of course, are mostly shut. St Thomas's refurbishment is excellent - my husband likes the little chapel coffee shop -fresh coffee and cakes!"

"My wife and I have been visiting St Thomas to see our friend at least twice a week since June 2018. We liken the home to a 4-5 star hotel for its atmosphere in all areas such as lounges, dining rooms and also its food quality. We are constantly impressed by the efficient manner in which the staff at all levels perform their duties. Their dedication to the care and welfare of the residents is worthy of the highest commendation and we have never seen or heard anything of a derogatory nature, worthy of complaint. In addition, we are impressed with the friendliness shown towards us by all the staff, who always greet us with a smile, as indeed they also do when dealing with the residents. Well done St Thomas."

She settled very quickly and is very happy with the care and attention she is receiving - she always says the "girls are lovely" when talking about the staff. "My mother has been a resident for about 2 years, the staff have always been friendly and professional, when Mum was first there she was very active and a member of staff was always with her and I never got the feeling that they had a problem with that, unlike a previous home, when mum has been unwell they have always kept me updated about mums condition and have discussed the issues with me. In the past year, the staff have gone out of their way to help me to visit mum for which I am very grateful."

"I have now visited my dad a couple of times since he moved into Barchester St Thomas Care Home. I am very pleased that we chose St Thomas as it goes completely against anything we had imagined when we first found out Dad needed full-time nursing care. Dad’s care has been amazing and all of the staff are always so helpful and friendly with the other residents and family that are visiting. We all knew that the day would come that dad needed that level of care and we are just so glad that we found St Thomas. Thank you to all the staff at St Thomas for their hard work and dedication - it really makes a difference to everyone in this situation."

"We called on the off chance of booking a visit with our friends, due to us being stuck abroad for over 8 months. In lockdown, we had not seen either of them since the previous October. The staff at the home were brilliant and cheerful and we were thrilled to go through the system to enable us to go through the system, to enable us to spend time with our friends there and then. Can't speak highly enough of the staff and management team."

"On the St Thomas’s website you will see that the carehome.co.uk review is 9.7 rating, whilst next to it is the poor CQC rating, not without reason. My mum has full capacity. After two months we have had to move my mum out of St Thomas. Because she was cognitive she was able to tell us when they failed to give her meals. She was able to tell us when her medication hadn't been given to her and when they looked into it, it had been signed for but not actually administered. The staff did not have the time to engage with my mum, to get her out of the room or to have the appropriate activities suggested on their website. When the assessor came to do a Continuing Care Assessment with her, as part of the assessment she said she cried a lot. The care home nurse suggested that she was depressed, but they would not know because they did not get to spend time with her and they could get her put on antidepressants. My mum is in a new home and is very happy with the great care and is not crying."

"Mum had a series of falls last year and was diagnosed with slight dementia. She was in hospital for two months and became frail, could no longer walk and totally incontinent. She was then transferred to Barchester St Thomas Care Home where she has flourished! The family and myself no longer have to worry about Mum not eating as the food is amazing. The care she receives daily is amazing and many of the staff genuinely love Mum. Entertainment and mental stimulation is greatly encouraged. Security is very good, cleanliness, laundry and day-to-day care are good. The staff are very approachable."

"Unfortunately, my mum needed full-time dementia care. It was such a hard decision and a worrying one too. We were recommended St Thomas and the manager and the staff put us at ease straight away. My mum has now been there for over a month and she has settled right in. I have total peace of mind. They look after her in the best way possible. She gets involved in the lovely activities they have, sits in the beautiful gardens, loves the food and has made friends. The care team are second to none. Always checking on her, making cups of tea, helping and really giving them the best quality of life you could hope for with this terrible disease. I would recommend St Thomas to anyone in our situation in a heartbeat. Everything we have requested whether it be to put a picture up, a TV in the room, hairdresser it’s done without question. My mum always looks lovely and presentable every day which shows me how much they care and have listened to our requests. Thank you."

"We are a group who have known each other for over fifty years, who were sad to hear our friend was involved in a hit-and-run accident a year ago. After an active life, living alone in a house with two extensive gardens, cycling 100 kilometres a day and visiting each of us regularly, memory issues now made living alone difficult. Initially, the care home he was sent to for evaluation was far from ideal. We looked at several care homes in the area. St Thomas Care Home was the best, with bright, airy rooms surrounding a large central garden. The facilities are pleasant, and the food is good. However, it is the attitude of the staff where the home excels. They dealt with a difficult transfer from the previous home with care and patience. They have gone the extra mile to help our friend, providing him maximum freedom to do what he wants and letting him do work in the garden. The staff are always cheerful and supportive. Our friend now strongly expresses a wish to remain at St. Thomas."

Apart from one very disappointing first lunchtime, meals are varied and well-presented with good quantity and choice of food. Staff are, on the whole, very friendly and helpful, apart from one or two who could show a little more enthusiasm. The care home, which is well set out, seems ideally set out as a nursing home and should prove very attractive to those seeking a refuge for patients with Alzheimer's."

The manager is really welcoming and is involved with the care of the residents. There is good communication between staff and myself. The building is impressive and comfortable and is kept very clean. The garden is a safe, calm place. A bonus!"

The whole home is geared towards the care of your guests. My stay is only temporary but should I need more long term, this would be my first choice."

"We have always found St Thomas Care Home to be excellent. It is secure and very clean with a homely and happy atmosphere. The management and staff are well organised, supportive, compassionate and nothing is too much trouble. The food menu is varied catering for all tastes and looks appetising. There is a good range of activities which often reflect special dates throughout the year, where the residents are encouraged to interact.

"We wish we could give my Dad personal care 24 hours a day ourselves, but we can't. This is as good a substitute as we are likely to find anywhere. The staff do an excellent job on the whole, in difficult situations and are genuinely caring. To the manager and all the staff,
Thank you all so much for your friendhsip and care you gave to Raymond and myself over the past four and a half years. Its hard for me to break the habit of coming in to spend every afternoon with him.
Thank you again for all your kindess.
Best wishes to you all and have a lovely Christmas
