Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Michelle Martin
I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home
Spring Sunshine
With the outbreak of the virus keeping entertainers and visitors away from the home, the residents have been enjoying a full programme of activities, alongside learning modern technology with Facetime and Skype calls to family and friends.
Residents have been enjoying the garden and some much needed spring sunshine. Activities have been taking place outside and we were very lucky to receive a wonderful delivery from Local Company Margaret’s Kitchen who supplied us with Eccles cakes and Bakewell tarts.
John Lewis surprised us one afternoon with a fabulous selection of Hotel Chocolat's goodies which residents and staff enjoyed in the sunshine.
Intergenerational Project
We have teamed up with the Spotlight Centre in Basingstoke who offer child and youth support and family support services. A group of young people spent a morning with residents reminiscing and playing board games, the Spotlight volunteers will be with us each month as part of an intergenerational project.
Creative Painting Session
We have some very artistic residents here at Ashcombe and we spent a morning using paints, pastels and pens to create a heart shaped mural. Each person designed and painted a section with the finished masterpiece making a large heart.
Art is very important and allows us to express ourselves, everyone is always welcome to join in and who knows maybe the next Picasso is living among us!
Smitten With Kittens
Sarah, one of our carers is an ambassador for the RSPCA and brought in 4 week old kittens for the residents to cuddle, the kittens made room visits and one almost got stowed away in someone’s jumper! The kittens were hand reared, so Sarah showed the residents how she goes about their daily 3 hourly feeds.
The King Is Back
We shacked, rattled and rolled to celebrate what would have been the king of rock and rolls 85th birthday. ‘Elvis’ joined us for a fun afternoon of flares, tassels and music. Elvis serenaded the ladies and also the men! Everyone had a fabulous afternoon.
Santa Came to Town
For all of us on the Nice List this year, Santa visited for the afternoon with his red sack bulging with gifts and goodies for the residents. Santa spent time with each resident reminiscing Christmases past and traditions we have. Santa made it around all 31 residents visiting rooms and spreading Christmas joy. Even the staff couldn’t resist a quick photo with the big man himself.
