Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

Mother's Day

Residents were treated to a wonderful afternoon tea and celebrations for Mother’s Day. Head Chef, Vicky, made a fantastic edible bouquet of tulips from cake, which everyone enjoyed tucking in to.

Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year at Ashcombe by learning about our zodiac animals, and if we have any of personality traits, some were almost spot on!

Head Chef, Mark, prepared a Chinese-themed lunch, giving the opportunity to sample some Chinese cuisine, which everyone enjoyed. Residents spent the afternoon watching the traditional Dance of the Dragon and admiring the costumes.

Flower Power

The smell of fresh flowers always brings a smile to our faces and can bring back memories of special occasions.

Santa at Ashcombe

We were very lucky that the big man in red himself took time out of his very busy schedule and put in an appearance at the residents' Christmas party. With a "HO HO HO" and laden with presents, Santa took time to visit every resident, giving gifts and wishing them a merry Christmas. The party continued with a buffet lunch, music and Christmas carols.

He's Behind You!

With current government guidelines preventing outside entertainment, staff decided for one night only to perform their own version of pantomime classic, Cinderella.

Residents really enjoyed heckling the staff; we are already planning another panto for this year!

Elf Day

Elf antics and fancy dress helped staff and residents celebrate Elf Day to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s. Elf-inspired games and prizes raised plenty of laughs amongst residents and fun was had by all.
