Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Gillian Buxton

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Gillian and I am the Activities Coordinator at Ashcombe House.  I love spending time with and getting to know our residents, this helps me to offer meaningful activities within the home.  From big events to a chat over a cuppa every day is different. I am very privileged to do a job that I really enjoy.
When I'm not working my Working Cocker Spaniel Basil keeps me busy!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Jewellery Making

This was our first Jewellery making workshop, Using a variety of beads, shapes and colours residents and staff crafted some amazing pieces of jewellery, from wheelchair charms, bracelets, necklace’s and purse charms there was something for everyone. This workshop was great for hand and eye dexterity and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Bridal shopping

Senior carer Mellisia at Ashcombe house is busy planning her wedding for next August, residents have loved seeing her ideas and colours for the big day.  Mel invited a few of the ladies to come with her to try on wedding dresses at local bridal store Elderberry brides in the town centre. This was Mels very first time trying on dresses. Residents were blown away at the selection of dresses available and absolutely loved the experience, most of them had never been to a Bridal shop before. Mel came down the catwalk in a variety of dresses and styles, residents selected their favourite and they all picked the same dress!  all we need to wait to know is if she said yes to the dress?

Kings Coronation

A full programme of events was hosted over the Kings coronation weekend, residents enjoyed a buffet watching the ceremony, toasted with a glass of fizz. The pearly king and queen came and sang some good old cockney songs that we all joined in with, a fantastic weekend and one to long be remembered.

Let's get creative

A colourful kingfisher was the inspiration behind our craft project, different techniques using pastels, acrylics and pencils made for a fantastic work of art.

Catch and Learn

With a ball loaded with questions residents not only exercised their bodies they were also exercising the mind. Through throwing and catching each person had a question to answer it helped us all to get to know more about each other and even threw in some surprise stories along the way.
