Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Michelle Martin

Activities Coordinator

I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Life at Ashcombe House Care Home

Dreams Come True

Residents heard of a local 4 year old, Oliver, who has 2 types of spina bifida and other ailments. All Oliver wanted was a red trike to be like his peers. The specialist trike would cost over £2000, so Oliver’s family started fundraising.

Residents were delighted with the Barchester Foundation to give Oliver a huge cheque for £600 to complete his fundraising and order his trike. Oliver came and met residents and has promised to return on his trike.

Thank You Nurses & Carers

Celebrations were held to say a huge thank you to all our nursing staff and team of carers. This last year has been a difficult one for everyone and our nurses and carers have gone above and beyond to keep our residents and staff safe and well.

Nurses were presented with certificates, chocolates and personalised mugs as a small token of thanks. Carers enjoyed chocolates and speciality lunches in the home's garden as a small way to say thanks

Century Celebrations

Resident, Rita, celebrated her 100th birthday with us with a vintage themed garden party. Usually, we host a champagne reception, but all the birthday girl wanted was a nice Guinness!

Head Chef, Vicky, created a wonderful birthday cake and provided afternoon tea in the garden, which really made for a wonderful day.

A special delivery from Buckingham Palace gave Rita her 100th birthday card from HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

National Scrabble Day

Celebrating the age old game of Scrabble, residents challenged staff, but they didn’t stand a chance; we have some very experienced and talented Scrabble players here. The Scrabble club meets weekly in the homes café.

Easter Celebrations

An egg-cellent time was had by all whilst getting creative for the home's Easter cake competition. Our local Morrison’s donated Easter eggs for residents and hot cross buns for us all to enjoy.

St Patrick's Day

Seated Irish Dancing started St Patrick's Day with an online exercise class, a quiz all about Ireland in the afternoon, and finished by watching a performance of river dance starring Michael Flatley.
