Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Delicious treats

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Christmas day

Here at Archview we had a fantastic Christmas Day, which involved themed movies, singing and dancing, family visits followed by a beautiful festive lunch with turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, puddings and cakes.

In the morning we welcomed Father Christmas and his elves from the North Pole, who brought gifts to all our residents - everyone was busy opening their presents and enjoying a glass of bubbly before the festive feast, prepared by our talented chef and kitchen team.

After lunch, we tuned in to watch and listen to the Queen's speech. Our day was filled with joy, smiles, music and laughter.

Christmas cake competition

Thank you to Linda Mackenzie (Kitchen Assistant) who made our beautiful cake to enter Barchester’s annual Christmas cake competition . Well done Linda! It is amazing and we can’t wait to taste it!

Carol performance

Our residents enjoyed an afternoon of smiles with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local group little voices who performed a selection of all-time favourite Christmas songs and carols, which brought happy memories to all. Our residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along.

National Elf Day

We swapped our uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered directly from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia.

We were able to enjoy elf-themed games, quizzes and delicious sweet and savoury treats, prepared by our talented chef.

Christmas decorations

In preparation for the upcoming Christmas festivities, we spent time decorating our home with colourful themed ornaments, lights and baubles. A special thank you to one of our families for the amazing balloon display!

Our residents had fun creating the home’s Christmas display and got involved in arts and crafts sessions to paint baubles and make the beautiful decorations for our Christmas tree.

We held a special lights switch-on ceremony, where we turned on the Christmas lights at the home.

Everyone had an amazing time and we are all looking forward to the holidays.
