Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Residents take to the water

Residents at Archview took advantage of the late Spring sunshine to enjoy a trip out to Ratho Barge.  The Ratho canal charity Seagull Trusts provides scenic trips and is a charitable organisation.

Discovering the Astor's

Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service.  The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.

Wallace Collection

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.  The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.   We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.

Magical mystery tour

Residents love to get out and about on the homes mini bus and enjoy their magical mystery tours, wondering where the bus will take them to next ! This week they enjoyed a trip up to Edinburgh and a delicious home-made picnic on the bus, especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.

Pet therapy

Residents at Archview enjoyed a pet therapy session when ‘Hula’ the mini dachshund paid a visit.  Hula was on her best behaviour and was only too happy to receive lots of cuddles.  Residents enjoy their regular visits and often share stories of their own pets.

St Patrick's Day

Today we celebrated St Patrick’s Day in recognition of the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland.

The home was decorated with shamrocks and we all enjoyed exploring the Irish culture through a variety of themed activities.

Our talented chef prepared a fantastic spread of traditional Irish dishes for all to enjoy, all washed down with Guinness and Irish whiskey.
