Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Rio Walking Challenge

Rio Walking Challenge

Pedometers have arrived and recording cards have been made and we are ready to launch the walks in all care homes. This is open to residents and staff to encourage all to walk a little bit more each day. The daily step count will be recorded on individual cards and we are encouraging everyone to continue recording their steps for 12 weeks. There is a questionnaire to be completed for residents, which is anonymous and will be used to evaluate the success of the walking project and can then be shared with the Scottish Governmentt and local authorities throughout Scotland. Vivian and a couple of volunteers will be on hand to assist with completing the questionnaires and are happy to answer any questions or concerns. This is all being funded by the Spirit 2012 Legacy 2014 fund and the evaluation has been created by the University of Glasgow.

A Special Visit from Russia

A Special Visit from Russia

Commander Dairmid Gunn, is in the process of writing a book on the 2nd World War and the British Navy's part in this. Mr Davidson was able to give them a detailed account of his experiences during that time. Pictured with Mr Davidson is Mr Timefey Kunitskiy Vice-Council of the Consulate General of Russia in Edinburgh, and Ken Reynolds, Artistic Photographer for Commander Gunn's book. They presented Mr Davidson with a gift box containing lots of Russian sweets, teas and marmalade. Mr Davidson received the Medal of Ushalor last year from the Consulate General. Mr Davidson is very touched by their gestures, as he always says "I was just a 19 year old laddie, doing my job."
