Hi, my name is Arthur and I am the General Manager here at Strachan House.
For the vast majority of the past 25 years since I qualified as a Mental Health Nurse, I have worked at a senior management level with various health and social care teams. The pursuit of excellence, true person-centred care and meaningful change are my driving motivations. I have had three passions throughout my career: care of the elderly (specifically dementia care and support), palliative care and mental health / learning disability health and social care provision. Each of these has shaped the practitioner I am today.
Much of my career has been based within the care home sector and I have more than 10 years senior management experience in the sector, having worked with some of the most dynamic, motivated and highest rated services available in Glasgow and Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire.
In 2005, I changed the focus of my experience to the mental health / learning disability / autism sector and held managerial roles with a social care provider for 7 years as Area Manager for Glasgow and then Regional Quality Manager for Scotland and NE England before becoming a Hospital Manager with a specialist service. It was during this time that I completed my BSc in Interprofessional Practice.
I returned to the care home sector in 2015 with a renewed passion for excellence, forward thinking and motivational care delivery. Having recently relocated back from Aberdeen, my most recent post was as General Manager at a very successful and well-established service within the city’s west end where we achieved Grade 6s with the Care Inspectorate and had a reputation for excellence, attention to detail and creative care delivery that enabled residents to achieve a sense of well-being and lead full and active lives.
I am passionate about the delivery of a quality service that strives to break the mould and question our perception of what a care home is and should be. I have heard many positive things about Barchester and I am excited to be joining a team that values every person as an individual and is not content to be average. When I visited the service, I was struck by the warmth and welcoming approach of the team here and am excited to be a part of their future and to see how, together, we can maintain an excellent reputation.
I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with the utmost dignity and respect, where they can receive a bespoke service tailor made to their own requirements and expectations; and throughout my time I have worked as part of teams that have made a difference to the lives of the people in our care, alongside their families and friends.
