Strachan House Care Home in Edinburgh
Our nursing home is a purpose-built care home in Edinburgh, near Craigcrook Castle. It provides 24-hour nursing care, in addition to dementia care, for older people. Public transport links are good and there are shops nearby.
Strachan House has a dedicated Memory Lane Community that provides a safe, homely environment for people living with dementia, which has been designed following these guidelines ensuring the care we provide supports residents’ freedom of choice. We aim to maintain their life-skills, improving their self-esteem and helping them to maintain and develop their independence while they are living with us.
Staff undertake specialist dementia care training developed by our team of Dementia Care Specialists and academic partners, the Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett University. Together they ensure our training programmes are informed by the very latest thinking. We ensure that the people we support feel comfortable and safe in their surrounding environment, helping ensure they live life with dementia to the full.
Choosing a care home for a loved one or friend who may be experiencing dementia can be difficult and we have created a guide to showcase how we ‘Enrich the lives of people living with dementia’ in our care home.
At Strachan House we pride ourselves on the quality of the care we provide, the standards of hospitality on offer and the wide range of activities and social contacts we promote.
We are always happy to see visitors if you would like to drop in.

The dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care to each individual living at the home.
Hi, my name is Eileen, and I am the General Manager here at Strachan House. Welcome to our website!
My career has included volunteering, working with the NHS and joining private providers to support adults and older people. Have worked as a manager, senior manager, in quality assurance and clinical governance and also as a learning & development specialist (nursing). During my working career, I have been fortunate to have my work accredited by the Royal College of Nursing, National Council for Palliative Care and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
I love working for Barchester and leading the team at Strachan House in the care and support of residents to provide a quality service that meets their individual needs. Safe practice in line with legislative and regulatory requirements is paramount, as is making sure the care is delivered to maximise the choices and wishes of those we support.
I am most proud of my family, my career and making the right choices as a nurse, always acting in the best interests of those I am caring for; and of supporting families and friends in difficult situations when those close to them in my care are living with dementia and other serious conditions.Get in touch Meet my team
