Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Community Spirit Brings Local Delivery

Residents and team members at Woodhorn Park were delighted to answer the door to accept a special delivery from their local pizza delivery outlet, The Old Ash Dene, who were closing their doors temporarily due to the Coronavirus.

The boxes were filled with delicious pizza’s with a variety of topping for everyone to enjoy and in recognition of the homes hard working, dedicated team supporting residents during this difficult period.

Residents and Colleagues Bid a Fond Farewell

It was an emotional day as residents and colleagues bid a fond farewell to ‘our Kelsey’ as she moves to pastures new.  Kelsey joined Woodhorn Park in 2013 at the tender age of 21 as a Senior Carer and during that time she has achieved north divisional finalist 2019 dementia champion in Barchester’s Annual Care Awards, become a mother to two beautiful children.  Throughout those 7-years she has brought her ‘work family’ sunshine, joy and silliness with her and will be sorely missed by all.

Julie Bond, General Manager said “Kelsey has is a kind and caring lady with a natural flair for connecting with our wonderful residents and will be solely missed by everyone here who knows her. On behalf of the team we wish her all the very best for the future”.

Julie Bond, Senior General Manager at the home, said “Chefs are trained to meet our residents’ specific dietary requirements as well as all their like and dislikes. In addition to being trained in how to cook delicious and well prepared food, the chefs are trained in nutritional balance and special diets with lots of thought going into menu planning.''

Chinese New Year

Residents enjoyed dressing the ‘Barchester Cart’ in preparation of welcoming the Chinese New Year, The Year of the Rat. As you can see residents enjoyed a crafting afternoon, which included making Chinese parasols from tissue paper, sampling a variety of Chinese foods and ending a fabulous day with a party.

Open Day

On 18th January, fans of the every-popular children’s book, Winnie the Pooh, celebrated the birthday of author A.A.Milne at Woodhorn Park as part of the home's Open Day.

Residents, some of whom remember reading Winnie the Pooh when it first appeared in 1926, had great fun with staff and reminiscing about their favourite characters.

One Resident said “I read Winnie the Pooh books when I was tiny and my favourite character has always been Eeyore. The appeal of Winnie the Pooh has lasted for 90 years and I don’t see it ever losing its popularity!”

Christmas Lunch

Some of our residents enjoyed a meal at a local food establishment, having a great time with family members, toasting the festivities and enjoying a traditional Christmas menu.
