Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Life at White Lodge Care Home

Employee of the Month February

Congratulations to Carl our Employee of the Month at White Lodge.  Carl is a member of the Maintenance Team and we are very fortunate to have his landscape gardening skills with 10 acres of grounds to maintain.  Carl is part of the team working on the Countryfile Plant Britain project to create new areas to the resident's garden.  We would like to thank Carl for all he does at White Lodge, he willingly helps out with so much and he very much epitomizes Barchester's values.

Wine Tasting

Our residents at White Lodge enjoyed a relaxing wine tasting afternoon.  It was a perfect opportunity for socialising and exchanging stories of their lives, families and places they used to enjoy visiting.  As the afternoon went on, they broke into song and although Christmas has now long gone, they chose a few carols and hymns to sing.  Never too early to get some practice in for this year's festivities, they're sending good wishes and cheers from us to you!

Happy 61st Wedding Anniversary

What a privilege today at White Lodge, to celebrate the Wedding Anniversary of this wonderful couple.  61 years of marriage is amazing and we couldn't let the occasion go by unnoticed.  A romantic table for 2 was set for lunch and all in total secrecy which wasn't easy as the dining room is literally 10 feet away from Val's room!

They shared a lovely lunch together and shared with the team at White Lodge the events of their wedding day on 20th February 1960, starting with the 2pm service.  It is days like today that all of us at White Lodge feel very fortunate to share these moments.  Congratulations to Val and Kenneth.

Planting in the Sun

We took full advantage of the sunshine, starting in the greenhouse to plant up hanging baskets and pots for the front of the house.  Everyone enjoyed getting outside in the fresh air and getting their hands dirty!  We are so looking forward to the warmer days of Spring.

Carl, our landscape gardener from the maintenance team, joined us assisting with planting in the borders.  We have also bought some beautiful fruit trees to plant in readiness for BBC Countryfile Plant Britain Campaign.  More exciting news to follow about this......

Pancake Day Fun

The residents and staff had great fun today seeing who could toss the pancakes highest and of course catch them!  They all did a great job, although some ended up in other places!  The residents this evening enjoyed traditional pancakes freshly made for supper.  Shrove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday the question is will any of the team be giving up anything for Lent?

Mindful Colouring

White Lodge's Lakeside residents enjoyed a relaxing calming colouring session.  Mindful colouring has proven health benefits most significantly reducing stress.  Residents got creative using a wonderful array of colours.  We all thought we could benefit from this relaxing activity.
