Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Love is all Around

Love is all around us at White Lodge.  With Valentine's Day on its way, we decided to spread the love and decorate our cafe lounge with love hearts garlore.  There are lots more Valentine activities planned for next week for our residents to enjoy, along with enjoying some classic love songs.  Even in these challenging times Deon Jackson's 1960s' hit song reminds us "Love makes the world go round".

Knit and Natter

Our creative residents at White Lodge love a good knit and natter morning!  They recently finished a project working with Hook Women's Institute to make two beautiful blankets for local charities.  Always wanting to keep busy, the knitting circle are now making hats for the Great Western Hospital Maternity and Neonatal Unit.  We will keep you updated as our knitters keep those knitting needles clicking!

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

This weekend White Lodge are taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, residents have been preparing this week to spot the birds partaking in the feast that has been prepared for them.  Residents got a little messy mixing lard, wild bird seed and raisins, the gourmet mix was then put into various containers including china teacups!  These were then hung around the resident's patios, outside the cafe and lounges as well as on trees and the bird table.  White Lodge is set in 10 acres of grounds and attracts a great variety of wildlife, it is a pleasure to watch the birds enjoying their treat, we will definitely be refilling these for the birds to enjoy over the coming months.

Memory Lane Activities

Barchester Healthcare continue to lead the way in dementia care, with the highest standards of specialist training for the teams working in the Memory Lane Communities.  White Lodge's Memory Lane is well thought out from the layout of the community through to the dementia friendly crockery.  Activities are carefully planned using specialist resources, White Lodge took delivery this week of a wonderful range of new puzzles and memorabilia.   The residents enjoyed a stimulating afternoon of games, painting and reminiscing, followed by afternoon tea.

A Day At The Races

The residents thoroughly enjoyed a day at the races and all agreed this will be a regular event at White Lodge.  In the warmth and comfort of one of the lounges they cheered on their favourite horse, enjoying tea and cake whilst having a flutter.  One resident picked a few favourites and won a tidy sum - shame it wasn't real money!

Burns Night Celebrations

White Lodge residents paid homage to Robert Burns in their celebrations of Burns Night.  Our bonnie Resident Ambassador, Jeanie joined Martine, our Activities Coordinator in reciting a selection of the writers famous poems, including "A Red, Red Rose".   Robbie was toasted with a wee dram of Whiskey and Scottish Shortbread, continuing into the evening with a traditional supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.
