Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Father's Day

We at Westvale in Warrington marked Father’s Day in style with a special lunch in honour of all fathers.

Some of our residents met their loved ones in the garden, others enjoyed video calls with their family and friends, and we all took part in various activities, such as writing letters and cards, and playing themed games and quizzes.

Our residents spent time reminiscing about their earlier lives and talking about their fathers.

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Home celebrate Queens official birthday

Today we had a wonderful day as we marked the Queen’s official 95th birthday with an Abba themed tea party.

Our head chef whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the special occasion, all washed down with pots of tea.

We enjoyed a variety of royal–themed events whilst listening to Abba hits including, watching the parade and the fly-past, watching virtual tours of royal palaces, watching old clips of royal tours and occasions. It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Care home Olypmics with local nursery

The residents at Westvale House where so happy to have Jack & Jill’s nursery children back for a visit in the garden after not seeing them for over 15 months!

The residents and children enjoyed taking part in our ‘Care home Olympics’. The children enjoyed taking part in the egg & spoon race and the residents had lots of fun in the bean bag competition.  It was a thrilling and fun morning and we are looking forward to them returning soon.

National Biscuit Day

It was a special day for all of us at Westvale care home in Warrington as we celebrated National Biscuit Day.

We certainly had a fun-filled day of biscuit dunking and tasting, paired with a good old cup of tea. Our residents got involved in a biscuit tasting activity, themed quiz and chat about all things biscuits.

Some of the residents got the change to share a cuppa and biscuits with their family in the garden.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day

Here at Westvale in Warrington, we understand the importance of remaining active.

To acknowledge National Senior Health and Fitness Day, we focused on some gentle physical activities, like seated yoga, armchair exercises and walking.

Some of our residents preferred to join the group sessions, organised by the team, others focused on their individual movement activities.

We also took the time to learn more about the benefits of physical activity and how it can improve anxiety and overall well-being.
