Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Trip to Sankey Park

Residents at Westvale care home in Warrington are celebrating being able to go on trips out again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country.  Residents are now able to go on a short trip with their designated visitor without having to isolate on their return.

Resident, Nancy enjoyed a long-awaited trip with their named visitor to Sankey Park where they were able to enjoy the views and feed the ducks and take advantage of the dry sunny weather.

Charlotte Aspinall, General Manager commented: “We couldn’t be happier that our residents can start to go out again with their named visitor.  Obviously we still have to be careful so we’re testing visitors before they take residents out but it is wonderful that our residents can spend time with their families out of the home.  It really feels like we’ve turned a corner.”

Blooming Haus at Westvale

Here at Westvale in Warrington we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass.

We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.

Residents celebrate World Bee Day

Residents had a lovely day celebrating National Bee Day where they enjoyed watching  virtual facts on Bees, Honey tasting with activities coordinator, Sarah and the firm favourite honey, was Orange Blossom flavour! We also enjoyed tasting the Buzzy Fairy cakes made by the homes chef, Maureen.  It was a fun-filled day for all!

Green Goddess joins local residents

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Westvale care home in Warrington were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Westvale were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Westvale head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Celebrating VE anniversary in style

Residents at Westvale in Warrington enjoyed celebrating the 76th Anniversary of  VE day by hosting an in-house ‘street party’ and reminiscing about what they were doing on that day. Resident, Heather remembers walking down the main streets of Knutsford with her school, singing and dancing with her friends.

As part of the celebrations Residents made their own VE Day banner, dressed up in their headscarf’s and rollers and made their own jam butties.  Just look at those rollers, headscarves and big smiles!
