Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home

Happy Birthday!

This month, we celebrated Waterside Court's very first resident's birthday. Happy Birthday Maureen!

Chef baked a beautiful and very scrumptious cake, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Wallingford Carer Support Group

A huge thank you to Val at Wallingford Carers Support Group, who invited our Home Services Advisor as a guest speaker to talk about dementia in this month's meeting.

Waterside Court are striving to make Wallingford a Dementia Friendly Community, so we had the absolute pleasure of talking about how spreading awareness through Dementia Friends is incredibly beneficial for not only those living with dementia, but those who care for them too.

If you would like to know more about dementia, or if you would like to attend a Dementia Friends session, please get in touch on 01491 821 080.

Bingo!

Every month, Waterside Court hold a Residents' Meeting where we ask for feedback on our Life Enrichment programme. Residents actively tell the team what they liked in the month's Life Enrichment Schedule, what activities they would like to try and what they would like to see more of.

At our last Residents' Meeting, residents requested to have more games of Bingo at Waterside Court, so our Activity Coordinator added more games into our planners. Residents had a delightful morning relaxing in our stunning Benson Lounge whilst playing a competitive game of Bingo, with all being eager to win prizes!

Welcoming Visitors Back

Residents and staff at Waterside Court have been welcoming more family visits into the home, thanks to the change in Government guidelines.

Whilst we are still placing an emphasis on infection control and safety, we have been able to increase visitor slots and also welcome some new faces, both indoors and outdoors.

The change in guidelines saw the 5 "designated visitors" change to an unlimited number of "named" visitors, which means that residents have been able to re-unite with lots more loved ones, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine Ball, Senior General Manager at Waterside Court, said: "It's been so heart-warming to welcome families and friends into Waterside Court. We have been so well supported and everyone is still keen to maintain safety and infection control in the home, but being able to see children in the home again has certainly put many smiles on many faces."

Dancing into the Weekend

Our lovely Fiona Harrison put on a fantastic show for residents at Waterside Court to get everyone well and truly into weekend spirit!

This month's show contained hits from the 50s and 60s and provided residents with the opportunity to test out their dance moves. The show started with Fiona creating the atmosphere through a captivating story. It was then followed with much-loved hits that soon had residents on their feet and dancing around our Winterbrook Lounge. Fiona even dressed to match our stunning red lounge as she donned a fabulous red dress, which was much loved by residents.

Lorraine Ball, Senior General Manager at Waterside Court, said: “It’s always so lovely to have live entertainment in our Life Enrichment schedule. It’s been such a delight to welcome entertainers back into the home and we have clearly been able to see the benefit it’s had on residents. We look forward to welcoming Fiona back for her ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ show featuring Big Band and Swing themed songs.”

V&A Dundee "Hello, Robot" Virtual Experience

We had an interesting virtual experience, courtesy of V&A Dundee. Their "Hello, Robot" talk explored the fascinating future of robots at work, at home and in the blurring boundaries between human and machine.

Residents also enjoyed getting creative with making our very own Waterside Court "robot"!
