Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home

Dartmoor Zoo Virtual Experience

Residents at Waterside Court had a lovely morning watching a virtual experience, kindly hosted by Dartmoor Zoo.

We had a wonderful time learning about how the team care for their animal collection, conservation work, plus their breeding and research projects. We even got a behind-the-scenes look into their tiger enclosure and watched a live training session!

World Chocolate Day!

World Chocolate Day has been one of our favourites for residents and staff at Waterside Court!

Residents started the day with a chocolate milkshake competition, with different chocolates and ingredients being used to make lots of tasty creations. We then took to the Lifestyle Kitchen to bake a wonderful cake that was then decorated with chocolate icing and fresh strawberries. Residents were then treated to a delectable selection of fluffy marshmallows and mouth-watering strawberries that were coated in different types of melted chocolate.

Wimbledon, the Waterside Court way!

So far this week, residents have been exercising their competitive spirits by embracing Wimbledon-themed activities.

We've had quizzes to test our knowledge on tennis, energetic games of balloon tennis and lovely dinners in the lounge so residents can sit back and enjoy live matches.

Residents are looking forward to the weekend, where we'll be watching the Wimbledon finals on the big screen in our very own cinema room!

Stars and Stripes - Live Entertainment!

Waterside Court has once again been enjoying the guideline changes. Residents and staff welcomed live entertainer, Fiona Harrison, into Waterside Court on Sunday to perform a “Stars and Stripes” themed show in honour of 4th July celebrations.

Residents had an amazing morning that was filled with smiles, laughter, lots of singing, twirling and dancing!

Purpose-built gardens

Residents have been making the most of the summer weather by enjoying more strolls in our lovely gardens.

As a new, purpose-built care home, Waterside Court is fully designed to help enable residents on a day-to-day basis and with a variety of skills. Our lovely gardens, for instance, have flat pathways so residents can enjoy leisurely strolls with minimal trip hazards. There are also plenty of seats and benches available in the gardens and along the walkways, which allow residents to take a break should they wish to go for longer walks.

Our raised flower beds and planters are also a wonderful way of enabling our green-fingered residents to continue gardening when they move into the home.

Enjoying Indoor Skittles

Our residents’ competitive natures came out at Waterside Court as they enjoyed a game of indoor skittles in one of our spacious lounges.

Fun games like these are brilliant for helping residents to increase and maintain their motor skills and mobility, all whilst having a fantastic time!

We’ve had a few new residents join us recently as well, so interactive activities like this are a lovely way of making new residents feel more at ease in their first few days.

May Kidner, Activity Coordinator at Waterside Court, said: “I love seeing the competitive side of our residents shine through. They each try to best each other but they always maintain a good sense of humour and sportsmanship. It was lovely to see how relaxed they were whilst enjoying this activity”.
