Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

1 Letter 1 Smile

The residents recently received over 60 letters from the 1Letter 1 Smile initiative. This is an initiative which enables people in the community send letters of love and support to residents in care homes and other supported environments.

The residents were overwhelmed with the arrival of these letters and really enjoyed reading through them all. We are in the process of replying to all the letters we received and the residents are enjoying writing them.

Virtual dog show

Sutton Grange sadly couldn’t hold our usual dog show this year, so decided to have our own virtual one instead.  We had lots of entries from staff, relatives and friends of Sutton Grange. The residents had a wonderful time deciding which of the entries won for all the different categories they were able to be entered for.

Divisional Maintenance Champion

Congratulations to Adam Smith, who has been named as a Divisional Winner in the 2020 Barchester Care Awards. Michael is a finalist in the Maintenance Champion category and has been invited to attend a virtual awards ceremony on 8th October, where he will find out if he has won overall.

And they're off to Ascot!

Residents of Sutton Grange had a wonderful time creating some fine hats and fascinators as they prepared for the magnificent Royal Ascot. The residents enjoyed getting involved with choosing the flower colours for their own creations which they made whilst keeping up to date with all things Ascot by watching the coverage throughout the week on the TV.

The ladies looked amazing in their hats and really have enjoyed watching, talking and discussing all the races, alongside reminiscing about all the meets they have been part of throughout their life with a glass of sherry.

Carers Week

Carers Week is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate all the amazing carers that are part of the Sutton Grange family. Due to the current pandemic, our carers have gone above and beyond in ensuring that they continue to put the care of our wonderful residents care first.

Sutton Grange would like to thank all our care staff for the dedication and compassion you show our residents every single day.
