Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

National Story Telling Week

Sutton Grange care home in Banks has been finding out joys of storytelling during National Storytelling Week.

Many of the residents at Sutton Grange care home enjoy a great story, and National Storytelling Week is a perfect opportunity to experience this.

Storytelling is one of the oldest art forms in the world so, to help keep the custom alive, residents have been playing a part of their own tailored story, in a game of Dungeons and Dragons.

The residents rescued the farmlands of banks from a terrible curse, which involved them in escaping the care home and adventuring across the farmlands defeating the bandits and freeing the animals from their eternal slumber.

World news

This morning we have been discussing world news. There has been a successful winter expedition to the second highest mountain in the world K2.

This has never been accomplished in the winter time before and has been over 20 years since it has last been attempted.

Many thanks to Picture News Care for all the lovely information and photos, the residents had a lovely time discussing whether they would have liked to mountain climb and if they did which ones did they do.

Some of the ones we discussed were Moel Fammau, The Great Orme and Mount Snowden to name a few.

Home amongst first to receive vaccinations

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home, in Southport, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Bennett Mott said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Festival of Trees

We are celebrating Christmas in style at Sutton Grange by having our very own Festival of Trees. Our residents' loved ones have kindly donated the Christmas trees and decorations, which everyone has thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with.

As you can see, the trees look wonderful both decorated and lit up both in daylight and the evening.
