Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

A Walk in the Community

Residents have been taking advantage of the new restrictions easing by having a wonderful socially distanced walk in the local community. The residents really enjoyed the walk and seeing all the wonderful spring flowers that are blooming. We came back invigorated and the residents commented it was lovely to get back into the community and see how things have changed.

Easter Baking

We had a wonderful time baking a fabulous Easter bunny cake and Easter bonnet biscuits

Residents really enjoyed mixing the buttercream and icing then applying it to our lovely cake and biscuits.

We also reminisced about Easter bonnet parades and one of our residents talked about how they made the same Easter bonnet biscuits that we made. She said she loved doing it for the children.

Dominoes

Our residents enjoy playing a variety of games, with dominoes being one of their favourites.

Everyone really gets involved, showing their competitive side. The session promotes some chat reminiscing about games when the residents were children and playing these games with their own children.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Sutton Grange was alive with activity by having their very own Mad Hatters Tea Party.

We had lots of fun throughout the afternoon with sandwiches, biscuits and cakes alongside an appearance by the Mad Hatter himself staying for a chat and photographs with our residents.

Meet the newest member of the team

Sutton Grange would like to formally introduce you to the most recent member of our team Richard.

Richard is our manager Benn's pooch and has successfully integrated into the team giving everyone lots of love and affection.

He has already lifted everyone's spirits and enjoys spending his days with us engaging in our activities and only asks for love and cuddles in return.

Richard is going to train to be Sutton's therapy dog and be a daily part in all of our lives. He is definitely a welcome addition to our home

Chinese New Year

We had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year and bringing in the ‘Year of the Ox’, residents enjoyed a lovely Chinese themed menu especially prepared by the homes hospitality team and watching the Dragon dances which everyone enjoyed these colourful performances.  In preparation of the big day, Residents made Chinese lanterns as part of the table centrepieces.
