Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Floristry demo with Blooming Haus

Yesterday's Blooming Haus floristry masterclass was a roaring floral success.  The residents enjoyed a virtual demonstration via zoom with one of London's leading florists Michal Kowalski.

Michal went through all the basic things to make a wonderful arrangement of flowers and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

As you can see they made fabulous arrangements and had a wonderful time doing so. One of our residents said they love flowers and how much they enjoyed learning a little more, finding out you can use bleach and sugar for plant food was a great tip. We have entered our arrangements in the Blooming Haus competition which is being judged Friday, so keep your fingers crossed for us to win.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sutton Grange Care Home in Banks were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home in Banks were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight Sutton Grange’s head chef Dean McKeown had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Hairdressing is back on the agenda

The ladies thoroughly enjoyed having their hair cut and style and as you can see the results are amazing.

We also were preparing for today’s Cinco De Mayo party by making some masks for the event.

It was a lovely afternoon had by all.

Residents enjoy virtual trip to the Zoo

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Sutton Grange in Southport enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.

Games Afternoon

We enjoy games at Sutton Grange, and there is nothing better that we like to do than all getting together for a friendly competitive afternoon of board games.
