Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Our residents and staff took part in this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week.

Throughout the week, we focused on fun-filled educational activities on the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing, sensory and tasting sessions.

Members of our talented hospitality team prepared delicious mocktails and fresh nutritious dishes, containing super snacks, fruit salads and smoothies for all to enjoy.

A fabulous time was had by all.

Birthday celebrations

Happy Birthday, Eleanor!   Resident, Eleanor celebrated 80-years young surrounded by friends and colleagues here at Springvale Court.  It was a fun-filled day of activities for the birthday girl with a traditional tea party with delicious home-made cakes especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.  A G&T and cup of tea were special requests and we were only too happy to oblige!   Happy birthday, Eleanor from everyone at Springvale Court.

Politics and Passion at Cliveden

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.

Exercising the mind and body

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Springvale Court.   Residents took advantage of an Oomph live exercise class.

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the activity.

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

Pancake Day

The first day of March was busy as we marked not only St David’s Fay but also Pancake Day. Pancake Day or Shove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities, they prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate.   We watched some hilarious pancake races and some of our residents took part in our very own pancake flipping competition.

It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

Let me entertain you!

Resident, Norman likes to keep us all entertained with his musical performances that have us singing and toe-tapping along too! Norman had played in clubs and pubs locally for many years prior to his move to the home. Everyone stops to listen to our a talented in-house entertainer and we can't wait until he sings again.
