Appletree Grange Care Home in Durham

Appletree Grange is a 32-bedded, purpose-built home for frail older people and people living with dementia, providing residential care and specialised dementia care rather than nursing care. It is located between Newcastle and Durham in a quiet area of historic Chester-le-Street.

Dementia Care

Appletree Grange has a dedicated Memory Lane Community that provides a safe, homely environment for people living with dementia, which has been designed following these guidelines ensuring the care we provide supports residents’ freedom of choice. We aim to maintain their life-skills, improving their self-esteem and helping them to maintain and develop their independence while they are living with us.

Staff undertake specialist dementia care training developed by our team of Dementia Care Specialists and academic partners, the Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett University. Together they ensure our training programmes are informed by the very latest thinking. We ensure that the people we support feel comfortable and safe in their surrounding environment, helping ensure they live life with dementia to the full.

Choosing a care home for a loved one or friend who may be experiencing dementia can be difficult and we have created a guide to showcase how we ‘Enrich the lives of people living with dementia’ in our care home.

Care at Appletree Grange is carefully planned to meet individual assessed need and to manage risk while preserving independence, dignity and choice. Close relationships with local health services help keep individual health and welfare under review. A dedicated Activities Coordinator assisted by the whole staff group helps ensure that there is a varied programme of meaningful activities, based both in the home and the community, on a group and one-to-one basis.

We are proud of the services we offer at Appletree Grange and are confident that we can offer help to our local community. Why not give us a call or drop into see what we can provide?
