Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

Double celebrations

We marked the Queen’s birthday in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon party.

Supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, and of course, teas for our event, our residents had lots of fun taking part in sessions including themed quizzes and much more!

We all truly enjoyed the double celebration and the wide selection of teas.

Easter celebrations

We hope you have had a hoppy Easter!  We celebrated Easter in style with a whole host of themed activities and egg-cellent entertainment.  Our residents enjoyed decorating the home, painting eggs; attending a virtual church service and a special visit from our Easter bunny.

In recognition of the day, our talented chef prepared a delicious feast for all to enjoy, from carrot soup, roasted lamb and salmon with creamed spinach to tasty chocolate cake and Easter biscuits.  As always, we’ve had an amazing time.

Residents delight as chicks hatch

Staff, residents and their guests at Barchester’s Springvale care home are celebrating the birth of baby chicks this week at the home.  There was a lot of egg-citement at the home as the chicks hatched throughout the week. Residents were able to pet and feed the chicks as they found their footing in their new home.

General Manager Judith Tully said: “It was an eggs-cellent day when the eggs finally hatched! Residents at Sprigvale Court], as well as our team were all very excited about the new-borns, we’ve named the chicks George, Charlotte and Louis after the royal princes and princess. For anyone who would like to come for a visit of our chicken coop and have a tour of our home our doors are always open.”

The Astor's at Cliveden

Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service.  The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.

The Collection

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.   The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.  We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.
