Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Celebrating 1 Year

The Spires opened its doors to residents July 17th 2018, we organized a garden party to celebrate our anniversary.  Residents, their friends and families, previous respites, invited guests and the Mayor, Cllr Mrs Deborah Baker and Consort attended. The Mayor arrived prior to our guests and stayed for the remainder of the event taking time to meet residents and families, she enjoyed refreshments and the entertainment of the magician and singers.  We were all entertained by a band who performed for free as one of the members is a husband of a resident here, they sang a mixture of folk and soul tunes.  We also had one of our residents living with dementia who asked to sing a song, she took the microphone and engaged us all in singing ‘I believe’  which is her favorite song.  We raised over £300  for the resident funds, they are considering purchasing a fish tank for our cafe area with the monies raised.

A local Children's Nursery first visit was a huge success.  The children and our residents enjoyed the visit and the interaction of the different generations was special.  The nursery have agreed to make these visits a regular event which is wonderful for all involved.
