Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Life at The Spires Care Home

Cathedral visit

Residents at The Spires Care Home in Lichfield have enjoyed a very festive trip to Lichfield Cathedral to admire the entrants into the Christmas tree festival.

Residents were met by canon Andrew Stead who provided them with a personalised tour of the Cathedral whilst they admired the fantastic trees.

Resident Anne said: "It's been such a lovely day seeing all the different trees and learning about the cathedral's history."

Light switch on

The Mayor and Mayoress of Lichfield , Councillors Robert Yardley & Jayne Marks arrived on the 1st December to turn on the Christmas Lights at The Spires care home.

Wilma Hill, Activities Coordinator at The Spires told us more "happy 1st of December to everyone, we had quite a day which was made extra special with a lovely visit from The Mayor and Mayoress of Lichfield.  Councillors Robert Yardley & Jayne Marks enjoyed our home baked mince pies and mulled wine after they turned on our festive lights.  A cheeky little elf hitched a ride with them, he has lots of plans to create smiles and mischief throughout the month of December as our 'elf on the shelf'.

Cannock Chase

As part of Barchester Healthcare's '100 Hours Outside' challenge, our residents enjoyed a fantastic trip to Cannock Chase. This beautiful local woodland was a fantastic place for us to stretch our legs and to enjoy the autumnal weather. We spent time reminiscing about times in our youth when we played in the woods and our memories of autumn.

World Food Day

Residents and staff at The Spires celebrated World food day with a variety of tasty treats. Residents spent the morning making smoothies with fresh fruit and vegetables and had a great time making their own flavours. In the afternoon, we had a tasting session of Indian delicacies and enjoyed speaking about our travels in our past and the delicious foods we enjoyed.

,

Beer & Skittles

We had a great time at The Mayor & Sheriffs Charity Beer & Skittles evening at Lichfield Guild Hall. What a treat to play traditional skittles whilst raising money for the fabulous We Love Lichfield.

,

Reminiscence Therapy

What a treat to spend the afternoon reminiscing about times gone by! We received this brilliant reminiscence box from Lichfield Library, and our residents on Memory Lane had a fantastic time remembering the comedians and singers of times gone by. We even got to play some traditional games which was fabulous.
