Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at South Grange Care Home

Live musical performance

Another great afternoon at South Grange as we welcomed one of our favourite live artists Jon McLauchlan. Jon played and sang a variety of songs that our residents requested, making it a very lively afternoon. Residents and staff filled the dance floor for the whole afternoon singing and dancing. The residents are all looking forward to Jon’s next visit in July.

National BBQ Week

We celebrated the National BBQ Week in style with a variety of meat and chicken dishes.

In recognition of this week, our talented chef and their team prepared delicious homemade burgers and bbq chicken served with salad and baked potatoes.

The week was truly enjoyed by all.

Tour of the deep

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

National Day of Families

National Day of families is celebrated on May 15th and pays homage to the pivotal role of families in society. Families are the cornerstone of our communities and South Grange residents and colleagues came together to support residents to complete their own family trees which all have been added to the homes ‘Tree of Life’. The tree has been placed in the cafe area for everyone to see. We always encourage and love to see families join in with our daily and themed activities and events. A big thankyou to Sam (Head of Maintenance) for bringing our ideas to life once again!

Long Service Award

A senior carer at South Grange has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years. Alma Labridga, started at Barchester in May 2004 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Dementia Action Week

Staff and residents got involved with Dementia week by creating our own Forget-me-knots for our display. The residents have also got involved in a variety of activities including quizzes, arts & crafts, exercises and going out for daily walks to help keep the brain stimulated.

Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning – thinking, remembering, reasoning – which can affect a person’s day to day life and activities.  Functions that can be impacted are memory, language skills, visual perception, problem solving, self-management and the ability to focus and pay attention.  The number of people living with dementia in the UK is forecast to increase to over 1m.
