Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Residents and staff marked off National Ice Cream Day with a delightful knickerbocker glory-making session, bringing smiles and a touch of nostalgia to the afternoon.

A colourful array of ice cream flavours, including vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, was laid out alongside a tempting selection of toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, sprinkles and sweet sauces. Residents enjoyed layering their own creations in tall glass, carefully building their perfect sundaes.

The room was filled with chatter and the sweet scent of summer treats made it a fun and indulgent way to celebrate the day together.

The Basin Belles

South Grange was filled with excitement and energy as the Basin Belles, a dazzling dance group, were warmly welcomed to perform for our residents. Dressed in sparkles, frills, feather boas and waving elegant fans, the ladies lit up the room with their glamorous presence. Their lively routines to jazz and pop swing music had toes tapping and smiles beaming all round.

The residents were captivated by the vibrant performance and even more delighted when the dancers invited them to join in. Laughter and joy filled the air as residents swayed and twirled alongside the Basin Belles, making for a truly unforgettable afternoon of music, movement and shared enjoyment.

Wimbledon Celebrations

South Grange residents embraced the spirit of Wimbledon with joyful celebrations that brought the tournament's excitement right to their doorstep. Everyone gathered in our beautiful round room to enjoy a day filled with fun and tradition. The atmosphere buzzed with laughter as the residents engaged in lively games of balloon tennis, showing off their playful competitive side.

As the matches played out on screen, everyone settled in to watch the action while indulging in classic strawberries and cream, adding a delicious touch of tradition to the day. The celebration was a perfect blend of sport and sweet treats, leaving smiles all around.

Treasured moments

Resident Jim recently enjoyed celebrating the marriage of his granddaughter surrounded by family and friends in the home's beautiful round room.

Unfortunately, Jim was unable to attend the wedding in person as it was held in Dublin, but the wedding celebrations continued back in Scotland when the family flew over to surprise Jim. Emotions were high for Jim as he saw his granddaughter arrive in her gorgeous dress. What a proud grandad moment it was. Everyone spent the day sharing treasured moments and photographs from the couple's special day with Jim. Followed by a delicious buffet from a local bakery.

Jim said “It was a lovely surprise and great to be surrounded by all my loved ones”.

Home receive a generous donation

South Grange were overwhelmed to receive a generous donation from the family of Donal, a resident in the homes Seven Arches Community.

The family raised funds with the help of friends and members of the local community including Brenda Marr who baked delicious treats for a bake sale and the patrons of Fairmuir Social Club.  It was a community effort with Arle Fiddis of the Northend Social Club donating home-made tablet, the amount raised was incredible!

The family presented the cheque to General Manager, Catherine who was blown away at the generosity and kindness of Donal’s family and the homes local community.  A big thank you to everyone involved!

Annual nursery picnic

We love seeing our little friends every week for some fun-filled activities. The residents' faces always light up when the children arrive. Our beautiful garden is a great environment for our residents and the children from our local nursery to enjoy a variety of amazing outdoor activities. A favourite is the giant games and bubble machine.

Residents have made such special bonds with the children who visit regularly, so we were delighted to invite them back for our annual picnics. These are held over two weeks when the children spend a couple of hours over lunchtime at South Grange playing games, chatting away and enjoying a delicious picnic with the residents. We laughed, posed for photos, sang songs, made lots of lovely memories and shared some tasty homemade biscuits that the children made for us and, most of all, had a wonderful time.

National drive in movie day

Residents enjoyed our indoor drive-in movie-themed afternoon, with the residents' choice of movie. Everyone came together and decided to watch an old-time favourite, the classic 1978 musical Grease. The lights went off, and the curtains were drawn, and the snacks came out. Residents were happy to receive a tasty cinema snack box each with a delicious hot dog, a drink of choice, some crisps and a few chocolates, served by their very own “Pink Ladies”.

The afternoon was filled with laughter and sing-songs, as we sang along to some of the most popular tunes, such as Summer Nights, and You’re the One That I Want. Everyone agreed it was a fantastic afternoon, and they all thoroughly enjoyed their movie munchies.

Get Barchester Moving Week

Last week was an energetic, fun-filled week of movement and exercise for residents and staff. We got moving and put the ‘fun’ into exercising with an amazing week of activities. We started off our week with some of our gentle chair exercise classes. We then got creative and did some balloon exercise games. We were thrilled to be joined by family and friends too. What a laugh we had!

We continued the week by getting everyone involved in our Dancercise morning classes, which is chair dancing to some of the classic party songs, such as the YMCA, Macarena and many more. Everyone who took part had a fantastic time and left feeling more energised!
