Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Live entertainment with Gus

Residents and staff at South Grange were treated to a live concert from our local singer Gus Zee. Everyone joined in singing, dancing and clapping along to the music.

Gus was requested to sing a range of residents favourite songs which was enjoyed by all.

A Day at the Horses

Residents wanted to try something new this weekend and decided to make our own horse racing track.

Residents first placed their bets on each race and decided who would come in first, second and third. Once bets were placed everyone took a turn to role the dice to see how many gallops forward the horse could take.

All horses names were linked with some of the units within our home. Starring Pans Mure, Ashton Grove and Steven Archy.

Everyone had great laugh as each race took place and scores were counted. Well done to Stephen and Patricia who had the most predicitions of what the horses placed in each race!

Creating memory boxes

Residents have started designing and decorating their own memory boxes for our new memory box project. Many have also been completing their own world map of previous travels such as holidays, traveling for work and more.  We have all had a great time hearing about everyone’s favourite memories, from having to stand up and do the conga in a French pub, hearing about the beautiful sights of Italy and even missing their ship back for work due to enjoying sightseeing around Malta too much.

We are looking forward to continuing to add more to each box and hearing more memories about everyone’s years at school, favourite hobbies and more.

Live performance

Residents at South Grange welcomed back popular local musician, Paul Sullivan for an afternoon of live music.  Paul delighted residents as he performed a medley of popular hits that had us all singing and dancing along too!   Residents enjoy Paul’s silky smooth voice and we can’t wait to welcome him back to the home for another performance.

National Afternoon Tea Week

Residents at South Grange celebrated national afternoon tea week putting their baking aprons on for the morning to make homemade strawberry tarts. Of course we had to taste test them once they were made.

We carried the celebrations on into the afternoon by having our very own afternoon tea that included a range of sandwiches, savoury treats and sweet treats that were our homemade strawberry tarts.  Along with our cup of teas and coffees in our lovely china cups and saucers.

Everyone agreed our tarts tasted lovely!

National Relaxation Day

We spent some time unwinding and slowing down through relaxing our minds, bodies and senses in recognition of #NationalRelaxationDay.

Our residents enjoyed a morning of chatting about their childhoods along with a cuppa and biscuits. We continued to unwind and relax in the afternoon by pampering our ladies. Some ladies chose to have their nails painted, or have their hair done whilst some had both of these treatments. It wouldn’t be a relaxing afternoon without a bottle of wine to hand.

We had a discussion about different ways of relaxing and we all enjoyed our chill day.
