Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Leader of City of York Council visits Ouse View

Ouse View was delighted to provide the Leader of City of York Council, Councillor Keith Aspden, with a socially distanced tour of the home prior to the opening of its doors to residents. Councillor Aspden attended the home with Ms Monta Drozdova, Political Assistant to the Liberal Democrat Group, who said:

"Thank you again for taking the time to show us around the beautiful new care home last week. It was great to see what an exquisite facility is now available for the local residents!"

It was absolutely our pleasure Ms Drozdova, and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with our local community and City of York Council.   Councillor Aspden is pictured with Ouse View's Home Services Advisor, Adam Pope.

The importance of Life Enrichment

A program of tailored activities will play a key part in enriching the lives of residents at Ouse View. The home's Activities Coordinator is Richard Sweeting, an experienced member of the Ouse View team, and a former recipient of Barchester's Activities Coordinator of the Year Award.

Tadcaster born and bred, Richard has represented the local council for over 30 years, and on two separate occasions acted as Town Mayor.

A very big Ouse View welcome to Richard!

International Dog Day

lnternational Dog Day on 26th August recognises how dogs impact our lives on a daily basis; celebrates the hard work of service dogs who work on our behalf; and draws attention to the plight of abused and abandoned dogs. Ouse View proudly supports this special day, and looks forward to working with Bielby-based Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, one of the home's community engagement partners.

Handing over of keys

General Manager, Pauline Hodgson was delighted to receive the keys to Barchester Healthcare’s latest new-build care home, Ouse View from McGoff Construction’s Site Manager, Neil Wilkinson.

Situated in the historic village of Fulford, near York, and with commanding views over the North Yorkshire countryside, Ouse View is a purpose-built care home due to open its door to residents in late August 2020. Set in secure, picturesque gardens, and within walking distance to a variety of local shops and amenities, the home has been specifically designed to provide high-quality elderly care, including residential care, as well as care and support for individuals living with dementia.

For enquiries regarding the home, please contact Home Services Advisor, Adam Pope on 01904 615117 or email at adam.pope@barchester.com

Topping Out

We marked the completion of the latest stage of Ouse View with a topping out ceremony, where the final tile was laid, and final brick was fitted.

McGoff Construction Contracts Manager; John Redford commented: “We were delighted to reach such a significant stage in the build process today. It was a pleasure to share the occasion with our project partners Barchester Healthcare. We look forward to handing over the Marketing Suite in the next few weeks which will allow finished aspects of the care home to be showcased.”

Mark Bennett, the Director of Property Services at Barchester said, “This is one of 10 projects we’ve collaborated with McGoffs on and we couldn’t be more pleased. Each new build uses a bespoke Barchester Healthcare design that has incorporated learnings from previous homes we’ve built. This was to ensure each of our homes are not only safe, comfortable and welcoming, but luxurious, spacious and thoughtful. The homes design will not only allow our staff to provide the best level of care for the residents who live there, but also ensure the residents are able to live dignified lives in surroundings that allow them to be as independent as they choose to be.
