Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

A breath of fresh air

Fun in the sun - Residents recently enjoyed a relaxing afternoon on the homes balcony as they took advantage of the early spring sunshine.  Whilst enjoying the warmer weather, Residents raised a glass of their favourite tipple – sherry! And showed a little friendly competitiveness as they participated in a game of noughts and crosses. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

It's all leek to me for St David's Day

It’s all leek to me, St David’s Day merriment at Ouse View.  Celebrations were under way at Barchester’s Ouse View care home, in York as residents and staff marked St. David’s Day.

The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with daffodil decorations and in honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink.

Baking Club

Residents from Ouse View enjoyed an afternoon of cupcake making as part of their baking club, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.

Pauline Hodgson, General Manager said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their decorations as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the cakes were decorated, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Therapy pets and dolls at Ouse View

Residents of Ouse View have been enjoying robotic pets and spending some quality time with their therapy dolls who resemble newborn babies. They have been sharing stories of their own children and favourite pet names. Pauline Hodgson, General Manager said: “The robotic pets and dolls are greatly loved by all of the residents and give a nice sense of belonging and peacefulness in the home and it is great so see our residents interacting with them”

Exercising the body & mind

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Ouse View.   Today was a fun-filled armchair aerobics session.

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the event.

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

Love is in the air at Ouse View

Love was in the air at Ouse View celebrated St Valentine’s Day.  The home was filled with flowers, cards and sweets and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart shaped decorations to decorate the home and baking heart shaped shortbread biscuits for all to enjoy.

General Manager, Pauline Hodgson said: “It’s been a very different Valentine’s Day but we’ve all had a lovely day nonetheless. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either using our visiting suite or on a video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
