Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

A meal with a view

A meal with a view, courtesy of alfresco dining at Ouse View.

After a gloriously sunny autumn day, what better way to enjoy a freshly prepared evening meal than sat out on the balcony of one of the home's three dining rooms. There's definitely nothing half-baked about this fine dining experience!”

Residents enjoy pet therapy

Margery is relaxing on a rainy autumn afternoon with one of Ouse View's popular pet companions - lifelike cats and dogs that look, feel and sound just like the real thing. Tea, cake and engaging time spent with staff who simply love to make residents smile. 'Purrfect'!

Chef serves sumptious cake to 1st Resident

Head chef, Eve Goodger, prepares to cut the sumptuous coffee and walnut cake she baked to celebrate with Ouse View's first resident, Margery. Mary Berry would be proud of you Eve!

Ouse View is officially OPEN!

Tuesday 1 September saw Ouse View welcome its very first resident, Margery. The ‘First Lady’ of Ouse View can be seen playfully clapping along with activities coordinator, Richard Sweeting and other members of staff, including general manager, Pauline Hodgson. It was a busy first day for Margery, and we are delighted that she is settling in and feeling at home so quickly.

Ouse View has a wonderful team of experienced staff who are looking forward to welcoming lots of new residents over the coming weeks and months, all of whom will soon be made to feel at home-from-home.

Leader of City of York Council visits Ouse View

Ouse View was delighted to provide the Leader of City of York Council, Councillor Keith Aspden, with a socially distanced tour of the home prior to the opening of its doors to residents. Councillor Aspden attended the home with Ms Monta Drozdova, Political Assistant to the Liberal Democrat Group, who said:

"Thank you again for taking the time to show us around the beautiful new care home last week. It was great to see what an exquisite facility is now available for the local residents!"

It was absolutely our pleasure Ms Drozdova, and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with our local community and City of York Council.   Councillor Aspden is pictured with Ouse View's Home Services Advisor, Adam Pope.

The importance of Life Enrichment

A program of tailored activities will play a key part in enriching the lives of residents at Ouse View. The home's Activities Coordinator is Richard Sweeting, an experienced member of the Ouse View team, and a former recipient of Barchester's Activities Coordinator of the Year Award.

Tadcaster born and bred, Richard has represented the local council for over 30 years, and on two separate occasions acted as Town Mayor.

A very big Ouse View welcome to Richard!
