Activities at Oaklands Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oaklands Care Home

Shopping Trip Out

Two residents recently went on a trip to Tesco’s to buy all the baking ingredients needed for our next few baking club activities. These include Christmas cakes, gingerbread men and Christmas cupcakes.

Both ladies thoroughly enjoyed the morning having a good look around, especially at the flower stands and the Christmas chocolates.

Remembrance Service

This year our service took place on Friday 8th November with a lovely gathering of residents, families, friends, the local vicar and the children and staff from both the local primary school and Secondary schools.

The residents took part in the service with hymns, prayers and laying of the wreaths. During the service a resident’s family member played “the Post” on his trumpet which was very moving for us all.

Local Marina

Local Marina

David spoke of his love for fishing and the outdoors. He wanted to get out in the sunshine so we decided to take him to the local marina, which has a very scenic route past a polo club, which happened to be playing on that day. We stopped to watch the game and enjoy an ice-cream. It was a lovely day!

Pampering and Wellbeing

Pampering and Wellbeing

Every week Tracy, our hairdresser, visits the home. The ladies enjoy a little bit of gossip in the hair salon whilst being pampered by having their nails and hair done. What a way to start the day!

Dog Show , Dog Show

Dog Show

Oaklands Care Home hosted its annual Dog Show featuring ten entertaining categories from “Waggiest Tail” to “Scruffiest Mutt” as well as “Dog that the judge most wanted to take home”. Categories were judged by members of the Pat Dog Society apart from the "Prettiest Bitch" category which was chosen by our residents. Nancy, owned by Mabel Mercer scooped the award and really enjoyed her prize - as did all the winners! Everyone had a delightful afternoon including the furry competitors and many of our residents said that they cannot wait for next years show!

Trip to Shepreth Wildlife Centre

Our residents enjoyed a trip to Shepreth Wildlife Centre where they saw a number of favourite animals and were especially delighted to see the Red Pandas and Owls! Residents were in hysterics when staff members were scared to enter the Bat's Cave and everyone enjoyed a drive through McDonalds on the way home which was a great treat!
