Activities at Oaklands Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Forget-Me-Not

To help raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s research, we started a craft project with help from the local community, making items which we have displayed in our home for residents to enjoy looking at, and then we held a tea party and will launch the sale off the items.

VE Day Celebrations

We had singing, dancing and lots of storytelling from Mavis, who was remembering standing in the garden with her mum as a little girl watching the last planes come over.

We had flower arranged in the week using red, white and blue colour to commemorate the occasion.

A Bit of Fresh Air

We have taken the opportunity to enjoy the nice spring days we have been seeing through march for some walks around the garden, looking at the snowdrops as they come to an end and the daffodils.

Mother's Day

On the 17th March it was St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of the patron saint of Ireland and all things Irish. In the morning we got in to the spirit by making some beautiful Shamrock sun catchers and we got to enjoy some delicious Irish snacks.

In the afternoon, we took part in the green-themed quiz, accompanied by some traditional Irish music and then followed by some very tasty Irish coffees.

Everyone had a wonderful day!

Chocolate Donation

We recently received an amazing amount of delicious chocolates from John Lewis in Cambridge from their community engagement lady, Christine.

Our Activities Coordinator had reached out to her and was extremely grateful to receive a huge selection. The activity team have delivered parcels of goodies to the local primary school.

Our sister Barchester home, Hilton Park, and various other local groups. All staff received a box and the residents have enjoyed various chocolate tasting sessions.

Valentine's Crafts

We have had some wonderful craft sessions all themed around Valentine's Day. We have discussed all things that we love, including loved ones past and present. This has provoked some emotions, but we all shared these moments together.
