Activities at Oaklands Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oaklands Care Home

Festival of Lights

We were extremely lucky to have the local Indian dance school Sanskruti from Cambridge perform some of their spectacular dancing to help with our Diwali celebrations, Staff members were also taught some moves which was fun. We also enjoyed a curry and Diwali quiz evening which went down well with the residents.

Family Fun Day

We enjoyed music from the Eclipse Choir and the Cambridge Groove Orchestra. Our Head Chef, Richard, supplied us with a delicious BBQ.

Our own residents' choir, who meet every Tuesday, performed two songs along with the Eclipse Choir, which was a very proud moment for the activity staff, Anna and Jo.

As part of the day, we presented a Long Service Award to Jane Webb, who has been a nurse with Barchester for 25 years. Well done, Jane!

Cheese & Wine

Residents enjoyed a wonderful sunny afternoon tasting a variety of cheese and wines and generally socializing with other residents and staff. A great variety of conversation was had, including lots of laughter.

Harvest Festival

We have enjoyed a wonderful Harvest Service from our local Vicar, Sue Giles. During the service, we took time to think of family and foods that we are thankful for. Residents had enjoyed helping to make a Harvest display table, making fresh bread, and collecting leaves and berries from the garden.

Along the Seafront

A fantastic day at the seaside for our residents. It was a lovely, sunny day. We stumbled across a gentleman who used the power of his cycle to power his lathe, and then he was making wooden signs to sell. Margaret was very interested and was asking lots of questions and found this a great little business set up.

Seaside Visit

We have been lucky enough to visit the lovely seaside town off Felixstowe. Although the weather wasn’t really on our side, we still managed to sit outside to eat our fish and chips.

We walked along the seafront and stopped to watched a retired gentleman who uses the power of his bicycle to carve wood. It was very interesting to watch and Margaret had lots of questions for him.

To finish off our day, we got to see the big shipping container boats coming into port and one being unloaded by the cranes, whilst enjoying a cup of tea.
