Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Oh no he didn't!

We recently took a trip to Eastbourne Theatres to see the wonderful Rapunzel.

We had lots of fun, shouting at Joey the Jester and booing the wicked witch!

At the end of the show we were invited to stand and have a dance with the crowd which really put a smile on our faces.

Always Improving!

We have now had a fair few visits from Sussex School of Circus Arts and WOW we have improved immensely!!

We can now spin multiple plates at a time, 8 being the most by one person! Juggling individually and in pairs plus spinning hoops and aiming for targets!

We love a visit from Renato and his team, and are excited to welcome them back for our Family Fun Day on Saturday 1st June, from 11am.

Happy Easter!

Easter crafts were in full swing last weekend. We made Easter bonnets, painted bunnies and eggs, as well as colouring in canvas prints! Followed by an Easter egg hunt and a delicious Sunday roast.

East Sussex Fire & Rescure

We had a visit from our local fire department this week!

They came and gave a talk to our residents about the day to day life of a fire person, why they got into the fire service, what sort of calls they get and how it has changed over the years!

We were lucky that they didn't receive a call while they were here, so we then got to have a look around their fire engine and they could explain all about the equipment they carry!

Our local emergency service workers are always welcome at Mortain, and we will always have a fresh cup of coffee and a tasty home baked treat for them to enjoy.

Potting fun for all!

On Monday 11th March, we were delighted to be joined by the cutest little visitors from our local Rainbows – 2nd Downs Rainbows.

They came to visit us to pot some plants for our garden project. They planted a vast variety of spring bulbs, and were excited to come back and check on their progress.

Not only did the Rainbows sing our residents plenty of lovely songs, they made them gifts, in the form of handmade flowers!

The Rainbows is an extremely popular group, they do lots of exciting activities and love coming in to spend time at the home.

Our residents knit over 25 blankets for rescue animals

We pride ourselves on our amazing life enrichment programme, but sometimes it's the small things that make the biggest difference.
Jean, Julia and Eileen have lived at Mortain Place for a while, and they are in the homes knitting club. The ladies found out that each animal from Raystede Animal Centre goes home with their own blanket, and they have been extremely busy knitting more than 25 blankets for them. They decided to take a trip over there in our mini bus on Wednesday to hand deliver their great work.
After they dropped the items off, they went for a walk around the estate to see the rabbits, ducks, horses and dogs, before having coffee and cake, followed by a trip around the shop.
