Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Mortain Place hosted a networking event for ladies in our new marketing suite. 30 ladies attended from various businesses and organisations across Eastbourne and surrounding areas. A continental breakfast was laid on and our General Manager, Lesley Standing, said a few words. It was a really successful event and everyone wanted a tour of our new marketing suite, which we happily obliged.

Vintage Clothing Workshop

Vintage Clothing Workshop

A free vintage clothing workshop took place on Tuesday 11th June, and it was very well-attended. It was an exciting workshop, run by Emma Making,  where people learnt how to transform their existing clothing into beautiful vintage garments. It was a lot of fun and the feedback was amazing, so much so that Emma is going to host another session on July 9th.

Our Marketing Suite Is Now Open

Our Marketing Suite Is Now Open

Newly appointed General Manager, Lesley Standing, recently unveiled our brand new marketing suite, cutting the ribbon on the completed part of the home with an enormous pair of scissors.

The marketing suite was fitted out by Barchester’s team of expert interior designers, and provides the local community an opportunity to see what the finished 80-bed care home will look like when the home is complete. It features spacious en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, an activities room and a large assisted spa bathroom, all designed with the comfort of residents in mind.

The marketing suite will be open 7 days a week between 10 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., where the Mortain Place team will be on hand to answer any questions about the services available, and will be able to discuss the care options on offer when the home is ready to welcome residents in October 2019.
