Activities at Mortain Place Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.
I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Life at Mortain Place Care Home
Arts in Care Homes
Creativity is a huge part of our lives at Mortain Place, from music and dance, to literature and crafts. To celebrate National Day of Arts in Care Homes, we decided to go down the visual arts route by creating some spectacular pieces using only coffee filters, washable markers, and water! The results were absolutely amazing and we will be framing these to display around the home.
Welcome, Ducklings!
Staff, residents and their guests at Mortain Place are really excited as local community couple, Karina and Jez, from JK Hatchings, have given Mortain Place residents an incubator and 11 duck eggs to develop and hatch.
There is a lot of egg-citement at the home and throughout the week, residents were waiting to see any sign of the eggs hatching and keeping a close eye on any movement or cracks. They have even bought the new ducklings their own paddling pool they can use when they hatch.
Cat Competition
Mortain Place recently ran a lovable cat competition online for the Eastbourne local community. People emailed in pictures of their gorgeous cats for our residents to choose the best 3 from.
We had a huge response and choosing a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place was really difficult. It took an hour and a half to decide the best 3 for them all. The owners were delighted when they found out they had won a prize.
Virtual Dog Show
Our online dog show came to an end after receiving over 100 fabulous entries. Residents had a really difficult job and spent 2 hours going through all the pictures you emailed to us. All your entries were absolutely gorgeous, but sadly, we had to narrow this down to only 3 winners. Thank you so much to everyone who entered; it has been such a joy to see all your lovely dogs. All 3 winners have been contacted and will be collecting their prizes soon.
'Egg-cellent'
Staff and residents at Mortain Place were celebrating the birth of baby chicks. The incubator and eggs were donated by Karina and Jez from JK Hatchlings for our residents to enjoy until they get bigger when they will go back to the local farm for egg laying.
There was a lot of egg-citement at the home as two chicks hatched throughout the week. Residents and staff really enjoyed being able to pet and feed the chicks as they found their footing in their new home. The two chicks are named after two of Mortain Place residents Bernard and Biddy.
Towel Magic
Our Head of Housekeeping, Ingrida, has a real talent for making animals and birds out of hand towels. Ingrida spent some time at the weekend teaching the residents how to make their very own animals. They had loads of fun with this and take pride in having their animals sit at the bottom of their beds.
