Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Our very talented chef Mia, made one of the most regal cake creations, perfectly fitting for the king's coronation! Our residents loved all the celebrations this weekend with lots of treats had by all.

Mortain Place presents Just Friends a cheque for their Charity

Mortain Place Care Home in Eastbourne recently presented Just Friends Charity with a cheque for £1100 towards an excursion programme for the members of this charity combating the effects of loneliness for those living alone. In 2018 Frederick Smith decided to start a group to help combat the effects of loneliness. Membership in Eastbourne grew quickly with demands for branches in Bexhill and Newhaven. Another branch has opened in Hastings over the summer of 2022. Frederick’s mottoes are farewell to loneliness” and “Don’t be Shy – Give us a Try”.Just Friends run a full calendar of events and whilst we have a different group in each area there is no reason why you cannot join in with an activity in any area. Our events include walking groups, lunches, social get togethers, the theatre, the Blue Bell Railway, castles, gardens and anywhere our members would like to go.

Mortain Place has a new therapy Kitty

Cat lovers probably hope that as they enter the golden years of their lives there will be a loving moggy to stroke, who will sit on their lap, purr, and bring some much-needed comfort. However, for many older people a move into residential care means giving up a pet and learning to live without any animal interaction. But Mortain Place is trying to change this by having their very own residential Kitty, Rufus.

Allergies have been taken into consideration and Rufus will become part of the family however will be contained from those that have cat allergies.
