Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Life at Mortain Place Care Home

Gentleman's Club

The men who live at Mortain Place have built some really strong friendships. They love nothing more than an afternoon playing Rummikub in the bistro with a pint of ale and some light hearted banter.

Local Artist Demonstration

Mortain Place were recently joined by local and very talented artist Terry Hobbs. Terry showed a collection of his latest art work and also wowed the residents on how he takes a piece of canvas and transforms it into a work of art. It was a great afternoon and the home cant wait to welcome him back so they can give it a try.

Bacon baps for the crew

Mortain Place are so lucky to have some great relationships with those that support the home in the community. The emergency services often pop by for a cheeky bacon bap, strong cup of coffee and some cake to take away to get them through their shift.

Celebrating 65 years

Oh how we love a love story here at Mortain Place. Brian and Marilyn have been married for an incredible 65 years. They met whilst working in London and have been inseparable ever since. They now both live side by side at Mortain and are enjoying everything the home has to offer.

Amazing story of recovery

Staff and residents at Mortain Place are over the moon because one of their much-loved residents, Jennifer Cartwright, is celebrating an amazing recovery.

Jenny first came to Mortain Place about two years ago following an operation to remove a tumour in her neck. She was told she would never walk again. But they didn’t know Jenny!  Staff at Mortain Place referred her to the Joint Community Rehab Team who visited Jenny regularly, loaning her many items of equipment to support her road to recovery.  First a wheelchair, then a rollator, then a stand aid, walking aids and now just a walking stick.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice cream

To celebrate National Ice Cream Day. Staff and residents at Mortain Place were treated to a virtual talk and interactive quiz  from Walls Marketing Manager, Sue Carruthers. Alex our activity co ordinator took it one step further and took a group out to the sea front to enjoy the real thing after the event.
