Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Going above, and beyond

Alex, Steve and Rebecca go beyond the boundaries to ensure our residents have fun. They book great entertainment and activities and really listen to the feedback and suggestions our residents and their families give.

We wanted to give them a special thank you, with their favourite tipple and individual vouchers. Thank you so much for your hard work.

The mind, body and soul

We had a visit from the lovely Nicole last week. Nicole is a wellbeing coach, and we welcomed her with open arms. She came into the home to teach our residents mindfulness and meditation, along with the importance of looking after not just your body, but your mind.

We done a lot of stretching, breath work and tension releasing exercises to make us feel relaxed and calm.

Love is in the air!

Valentine's day, was a day filled with love and laughter. We decorated the home with big red hearts, spent some one to one time together and gave our residents a little love note at lunch time.
We were also joined by the lovely Julie, who came to join her husband Paul for lunch, they ordered a Chinese take away just like they used to, and had a romantic meal for two in our Bistro. Families are always welcome at Mortain.
In the afternoon, we had a visit from the fabulous Steve Dunnett who serenaded our residents with love songs. We always look forward to a visit from Steve, the lounge was packed out!

Sing along with us!

We are lucky enough to have Julie visit us on a regular basis at Mortain Place. She is great at including all of our residents in her sing alongs. The nostalgic lyrics bring back memories for them and they love getting involved.
As always, she spent time speaking with our residents and their families before and after her performance, and we can't wait to see her again.

We like to keep active!

Mortain Place have teamed up with Defiant Sports to break the bounds of age!

We have a fantastic relationship with the charity and the residents love it when they visit. They have recently played hockey, taken part in archery and even played tennis!

We believe it is extremely important to keep the mind young and keep the body moving we they think outside the box with our excellent life enrichment programme.

Mortain welcomes the CIRUCS!

Here at Mortain Place, we believe that age is just a number.
We were lucky enough to have a visit from Renato Pires with his Moonlight Dreams team from East Sussex School of Circus Arts
East Sussex School of Circus Arts, is based at Knockhatch and offers variety of training courses covering key circus performance skills, and a
BTEC Level 3 in Circus and Performing Arts.
The entertainers arrived in the home and taught our residents some circus tricks, including juggling with scarfs to plate spinning.
Our residents had a great time, and loved learning new things! We are excited to see them again and can't wait to have them back again to teach us some new tricks!
