Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

Relaxing Afternoon Movie

Now what could be better after a wonderful spa bath to sit and relax watching Yul Brynner and Ingrid Bergman in the classic 'Anastasia'... one of our lady residents thought it would be just perfect!

Springtime Garden Walks

Spring has sprung within the Middletown Grange gardens!

With the warmer weather coming our residents are enjoying their regular strolls around our grounds even more than usual. Finding pleasure in exploring the new life in our flower beds; purple crocus and the brightest of yellow daffodils. It's making everyone smile.

Artistic Valentines Gift

Our lovely 'Betty' was overwhelmed to receive a beautiful hand drawn gift from her husband for Valentine’s Day. He certainly has a very special talent, the framed sketch is so detailed; capturing a precious moment in time – very romantic.

Ash Wednesday

Today our residents spent time discussing Ash Wednesday and the meaning behind Lent. Many decided on things they could 'give up' for 40 days, the choices included; chocolate, sweets and exercise?!

During our Arts & Crafts session they painted crosses, and sang along to their favourite hymns, it was so beautiful to hear.

Congratulations Becca!

Our wonderful carer; Becca Huxtable, set herself the challenge of starting the ‘50 miles in January’ in the hope of raising £150.00 for Maggie’s Centres.

Becca has been running daily to reach the goal of 50 miles, all to raise money for Maggie's Centres in Oxford that supports people going through their cancer treatment, and provides free practical and emotional support for their family and friends. Before starting the challenge, Becca had never ran before. Taking her mother’s advice she joined the NHS couch to 5K to gain some structure to her training. Every spare minute she had, Becca ran!

Posting regularly to Facebook on her achievements, Becca gained the support of colleagues, friends, family and strangers, and on 31st January 2021 she smashed her goal and the original target, receiving donations of £244.00 for the charity.

“Everyone at Middletown is so proud of Becca’s achievement, especially the residents who have enjoyed hearing all about her daily runs. We have always known that Becca was full of determination and offered her support all the way. Well done Becca; you’re an absolute star!” #maggiescentres #BarchesterTogether

Jackson Pollock Creations

Splash, splat and dab! Our residents had such fun creating their own Jackson Pollock inspired artworks to celebrate his birth on 28th January. They loved learning about the America abstract expressionist painter.

Known for his technique of pouring or splashing household paint onto a horizontal surface, enabling him to view and paint his canvases from all angles. We feel our resident artworks were just as impressive.
