Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

China Cup Bird Feeders

Last week our residents took great pleasure in mixing seed and suet, before carefully filling china cups for display in the gardens to feed the birds. Don't they look wonderful!

We can't wait to see which of our feathered friends come to visit.

The Queens Birthday & National Tea Day

Yesterday 21st April, our residents took part in a virtual tour of Buckingham Palace as we celebrated the Queens' 95th birthday. Our residents are very patriotic, and wanted to send Her Majesty all the very best wishes, and to say she is in our thoughts.

We combined the celebrations with National Tea Day, whereby our residents had the opportunity to taste a number of tea varieties including; Pure Peppermint, Lemon & Ginger and Earl Grey. The majority preferred a good old Tetley and slice of cake!

To send thanks to the local Doctors, and Podiatry team; our residents helped package up some 'Tea & Biscuit' parcels. We do hope they can all can take a well-deserved break, and enjoy a cuppa on us.

Saying Goodbye to HRH Prince Philip

In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Saturday many of our residents gathered in the Middletown lounges and their rooms to pay our respects.

We raised a toast to say a dignified and beautiful 'goodbye and thank you' to the Prince and fell silent alongside the Queen, and the Royal family as we watched the whole ceremony, reminiscing about his life and all he did for the young and the Queen.

Rest in Peace - HRH Prince Philip.

Tea Party to Celebrate Southerndown Cyclethon

On Wendesday 15th April we hosted a tea party and 'All about Oxfordshire' quiz at Middletown Grange inviting the Southerndown cyclethon team as they completed another 34 miles on their foot pedal cycles from Hempton Field care home in Chinnor to ourselves in Witney!

It was such a lovely afternoon of happiness, smiles and laughter between residents across the zoom screens. The overall winners were Southerndown, although a special mention should go to 'David C' from Middletown for his expertise on the subject of Oxfordshire; he certainly did us proud. We all feel like winners being able to get together in support of the fabulous charity Be Free Young Carers

To find out more about the Southerndown Cyclethon Challenge please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Barchester

Keep on going Southerndown only 16 miles to go to complete the overall 124 miles! You're amazing!!!

Getting to Know You

Taking time to 'get to know you' our latest addition to the activities team at Middletown Grange; Debbie spent time with many of our residents today, introducing herself alongside Teri-Ann and playing 'Life Story Snakes & Ladders' which led to many giggles!

Debbie also had 121 sessions with many of our memory lane residents, chatting to them whilst they used the aqua paints to reveal beautiful water colours. These artworks magically appear when water is applied giving the user a real sense of achievement.
