Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Supporting Ukraine relief

Residents, colleagues here at Lochduhar have shown their support to families in Ukraine affected by the countries current situation.  The home became a collection point for food, clothes, shoes, nappies, toiletries, activity books, pens and pencils, cuddly toys and much more.  We have been overwhelmed with local response and have delivered boxes and bags to Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association who are coordinating this initiative.  Thank you to everyone who has showed their support and generously donated.

Spring planning

Residents at Lochduhar love spending time outdoors, we recently took advantage of the early spring sunshine to go outdoors to tidy the garden and start planting our bedding plants. It was a lovely way to spend a morning.

My name is not Wigs

We had a lovely time joining Angela Cobbin for a theatre-inspired virtual talk about her book ‘My Name is Not Wigs’.  ‘My Name Is Not Wigs’ is the ultimate read for fans of witty behind-the-curtains memoirs, especially those with a penchant for the bright lights of stage and screen: tears and accolades aplenty!

Spring crafts

Residents have been continuing their spring crafting efforts, this time creating their own blossoming trees. Residents collected the twigs from the gardens and used tissue paper to create the blossom. They’ve displayed their hard work in the reception area for everyone to see!

Nutrition and Hydration Week

This week we have been marking Nutrition and Hydration week by offering residents different ways to increase food and fluid intake. Our kitchen and activities teams have been busy creating and offering food and drinks throughout the week.

We have offered various fruit flavoured smoothies, fruit infused water and fruit flavoured teas. The kitchen team also added fruits to some of their baked goods too, as well as creating some higher calorie cakes and tray bakes for residents who need to increase their calorie intake.

The activities team also got creative with residents and made some jelly cubes for an alternative way to increase water intake

Virtual tour of Cliveden

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.
