What our families say: Lochduhar Care Home
"Our mum moved to Lochduhar Care Home earlier this year having been with a different care provider for the preceding 10 months. In a matter of months, our mums quality of life, wellbeing and disposition have been completely transformed and this is down to the care, attention to detail and excellent nursing care she has received. In turn, this has had a positive effect on us her family and we are completely at peace in the knowledge she is experiencing first-rate personalised care and also confident that we would be notified should there be any cause for concern. The staff always make us feel like family and not an imposition on them, and for that, we are very appreciative. In summary, we could not commend the home, surroundings, and the staff highly enough and thank them unreservedly."

"Could not fault anything so far. Staff very competent and curious. Nothing is too much trouble. Mum is being well taken care of, and Mum says food is good. No complaints!"

"Excellent standard of care, the staff are fantastic and very helpful to both Mum and myself and the well being of Mum. During these hard times due to Covid I have been able to visit Mum at the window which is hard especially when you walk away, however, I prefer that to the risk of carrying viruses to loved ones and the staff. Mum loves the food and eats well. The staff treat Mum very well, treating her with the compassionate, friendly loving care she needs, they also listen to Mum and have fun with her. I find the home of a very clean standard and well-kept gardens and car park to excellent standards. I know my mum is safe and well cared for and the staff are approachable to both Mum and myself at any time."

"Lochduhar Care Home was recommended to us when my mother-in-law could no longer cope at home alone. Having no previous experience of the procedure and being quite desperate, communication was quick and everything explained so nothing felt complicated. Very efficient and happy to help. The place itself is lovely and clean and plenty of activities going on to suit everyone’s needs. Staff are excellent, I’m well informed and feel she’s well looked after."

"I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Lochduhar Care Home. They all play an important part in my aunt's care and under this extreme and challenging times of Covid-19 they have been excellent. We, as a family, feel my aunt has been well looked after and felt she was safe and secure in Lochduhar."

"For the first time in 17-weeks, I was able to visit my sister outside, social distancing, in the marquee erected adjacent to the care home. I was welcomed by a lovely member of staff who detailed all requirements and then escorted me around the building. My sister was brought out in her wheelchair by another familiar member of staff, and we have 1/2 hour to chat. Everything was done safely, and it was a lovely experience. I know my sister is well looked after and I can relax in this knowledge."

"Very impressed with the standard of care. The staff are very approachable, compassionate and always treat my cousin with respect and are concerned about his happiness and wellbeing. They are always available to listen to information or ideas and we can work together to make things easier. Meals are delicious, the building is spacious, clean and tidy. The grounds are well maintained. I have had peace of mind during the lockdown knowing that my cousin's welfare was assured. The visiting system has been efficiently and sensitively handled."

"Hard to review as haven't been in the building since 15th March but outside visiting well organised and staff always seem very cheerful."

"Great staff who are helpful and obviously care. Good processes during lockdown and good organisation for visiting as lockdown was relaxed."

"Generally speaking, I am very satisfied with the care and support my mother receives in Lochduhar Care Home. I am particularly satisfied with the care she has received during the Corona Virus pandemic - no cases of the virus inside the care home so far. It is difficult to assess inside the care home at the moment as I have not been inside since March 2020. Communication has been good. I am delighted with the outside visits - the staff work hard."

"My brother lives at Lochduhar, and I am delighted with the care he has received. The staff give their heart and soul to care for everyone in there. My brother is happy and at ease with all the staff and smiles at them when they spend time with him. I visit normally every day, and I feel like I am “at home” with my brother. I am always made to feel welcome and part of his Lochduhar family. During the Covid lockdown, I have been kept in contact with my brother with Skype phone calls and photos of him. These are really appreciated and makes not seeing him a bit easier. I can not praise them enough."

"The staff at Lochduhar have worked very hard to keep us informed of all changes taking place during the Covid crisis. As well as having updates on their website, they have been sending out letters to relatives telling us about any changes and what staff have been doing to help residents through the crisis and keeping them occupied socially. Staff have also telephoned to discuss care-plans, any changes in my mother-in-law's condition, and also to let us know when she was needing toiletries etc. We have also been able to discuss how my mother-in-law would be able to cope with visiting when social distancing was introduced, and I felt that the members of staff really know my mother-in-law, and her issues."

"Lochduhar is a clean, well-appointed home with very friendly and approachable staff who always aim to give the highest level of care. They have taken great care of my grandmother from the moment she moved in."

"My uncle is a resident at Lochduhar, and since he began living there two years ago, he has had regular visitors including my mum (his sister) who visited daily. When the COVID-19 situation happened, understandably, visiting was suspended. However, thanks to the incredible effort and dedication of the team at Lochduhar, we have been able to have weekly (sometimes more) Skype communication with my uncle as well as regular photographs of him enjoying the sunshine and activities. I don't think we can ever express how grateful we have been as a family to be able to have this communication, and it has been incredible to see how upbeat and positive the staff are during these calls. This positivity has ensured that my uncle who lives with dementia remains calm, safe, happy and secure. For us, as a family, this has been invaluable. Lochduhar you have been a shining example of core person-centred care and compassion during these uncertain times. Thank you, and keep up the excellent work."

"Although my father was a resident for only a short time, he settled in quickly and was enjoying the activities, staff, and care, and also his surroundings. The home has a warm and welcoming feel with staff smiling and chatty, with excellent care. Nothing is too much trouble and all staff very responsive to both my father and ourselves. It is just such a shame he wasn't there longer to fully enjoy it. The end of life care he received was exemplary. We cannot thank Lochduhar enough for making such a sad time more bearable."

"This care home is, without a doubt, the best in the area. All others were checked out by myself, some are poor, the rest is a poor second to Lochduhar. Our family are very satisfied with the care given to our mother. I visit every day so my comments are based on knowledge gained daily over the last 19 months. The recent refurbishment has brought the fabric of the home up to date, a great job has been done, it is beautiful."
J Ccarehome.co.uk rating: 4.83 out of 5
"Attentive and friendly staff. Recent refurbishment to general areas making the home very attractive to both visitors and residents. Unfortunately, the refurb did not include residents personal rooms, which could do with some redecoration. Pleasing amount of activities related to outside of the home, with visits to the local football club and snooker hall available. A varied menu is available at mealtimes with an alternative option made if main meals are unsuitable for residents."

"My brother has been in Lochduhar since March 2018. At first, he was on the top floor but since February this year, he has been in Burns Lodge (dementia care). In both units, he has been treated with the love and kindness that he needs and deserves, even though they are often short-staffed and residents can be demanding. As a daily visitor, I am made to feel welcome and able to spend valued time with my brother."

"We always find the staff extremely caring and sensitive to Mum's needs. Lots of time and encouragement are given to ensure meals are taken and she is well presented and needs are met."

"Happy with the care given to my husband. Staff are really caring and helpful to him, the problem is a shortage of staff and the ones on duty never seem to have time to stop for a break."

"A very clean home with excellent staff, good meals and some activities. The only thing is it could use some more activity staff, especially at the weekends, as the two they have can't include everyone in the activities at one time. They do an excellent job but there are too many residents for two members of staff. I consider it to be the best home in Dumfries."

"Room in need of painting as a result of new window hence that rating. Continuity of staff is a huge positive, especially for my mother. Staff do their very best to satisfy Mum's challenging fussy diet and as she's not losing weight they are being successful."

"I have visited my friend once a week for almost 2 years. The staff are welcoming, the residents are well dressed and well cared for. The bedrooms are attractive and have personal items from home to help them settle in. There is a lot of entertainment through the year and everyone (residents and visitors) are welcome to attend. I have not had a meal there but the menus look good. The staff and support staff work hard and are always cheerful when I have visited."

"My mother has been in this care home since 2015 and she has received the best of care. I have total peace of mind knowing that my mum is in safe hands and the care staff see to her needs with sensitivity and compassion. She is unable to communicate properly which makes things quite difficult for the carers. They make sure that she gets the nutrition she needs as she is very reluctant to eat a proper meal. All in all, I couldn't ask for a better home for my mother."

"We as a family were very apprehensive when we had to admit mum into Lochduhar Care Home in June 2017 but were soon put at ease with how well the staff made mum feel, comfortable and safe, (she could get quite agitated prior to her admission) however we are very pleased with her level of care and at how she has settled into the care home itself. She still has the 'odd moment' now and again but in general, we always find her to be in good spirits and always seems to be happy with her surrounding."

"My mum went into Lochduhar about 3 months ago. This is one of the best care homes in the area after going round a lot before her going in. Very glad we made this choice. Room is very comfortable. Staff very good, friendly, caring and some entertaining. Staff are very approachable to talk to and understanding. Activities co-ordinators put on a wide range of activities for the residents which they can take part in if they want. Would definitely recommend lochduhar as a care home."

"This is a home from home, with excellent nursing care. The staff are amazing, so kind, caring, happy and entertaining. They can't do enough for the residents, and family and friends are also treated with kindness and friendship. No matter what, nothing seems to be a bother to any member of staff to see to the needs of residents, even if it's only to give them a bit of company or sing a song with them. My mother couldn't have spent her last ten months in a better place. Lochduhar itself has a lovely homely atmosphere, very clean and happy staff who are very welcoming."

"Carers look after me well but there is not enough time to give one to one time. Standard of food varies and is not always good."

"From the moment we went to see it, we knew this was the home for mum. A home with a lovely atmosphere, the residents are happy and all the staff are happy. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is very good and there are plenty of activities for the residents. We can visit whenever we like and are always made welcome. It is very clean and always smells nice and fresh which is one fo the first things that you notice. I would recommend it to anyone."

"The staff at Lochduhar are first class. They work to engage residents in enjoying life. The activities coordinator had put in so much effort in to help my mother partake in activities, thank you. A well-managed home."

"My mother has been in Lochduhar Care Home for just over a year. I feel very confident that she has the best possible care in Lochduhar and she is very comfortable. I am worry free as I know she is safe and watched over at all times."
