Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Lochduhar Care Home

Guid Nychburris!

We have recently celebrated Guid Nychburris. We were visited by The Queen of the South and her attendants.  We too have our very own Queen of the South! Our resident Moira McLaughlin. Moira who was known as Moira Rose Bell, was crowned on 26th June 1952 on her 18th Birthday. We presented the Queen and her attendants with some flowers and  we all had a lovely day.

National Trust talk

Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.

Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters.  The talk was truly enjoyed by all.

Carers week

Happy Carers Week! We would like to take this great opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful carers here at the home.

We are proud of each and every one of our care team for the outstanding care that they provide to our residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this we are truly grateful.

Jubilee celebrations fit for a Queen

Excitement has been running high at Lochduhar Care Home in Dumfries where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of the catering team in preparation for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a Jubilee themed garden party with live entertainment. The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Creating posies with florist

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

When I'm cleaning windows!

Residents at Lochduhar care home, in Dumfries recently enjoyed a visit from Buff and Sheen who are a comical dance performance about two imaginative window cleaners. The show reaches people in a very close-up and physical way without breaching social distancing by allowing the power of dance, and music, to permeate a glass barrier – which the performers, Suzi and Alex, clean in the process.

Children form the local North West Community Campus Nursery and their teachers were invited to attend the event as residents at Lochduhar have maintained close links with the children throughout the Covid pandemic through a pen pal letter writing activity.
