Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Leeming Bar celebrates National Dog Day!

Residents and staff at Leeming Bar celebrated man's best friend by inviting some very special guests to see us!

Jack, Alf and Ted came along with their tails a-wagging and showcased some impressive agility, obedience, and mantrailling skills! Residents even had chance to guide the dogs around the course!

Residents loved seeing their old friend Jack the therapy dog and his brothers Alf and Ted for lots of cuddles and playtime! Resident Alice put it beautifully commenting that "dogs give you so much love", so it is no wonder residents could not stop beaming!

Thank you to Wendy and James for bringing their wonderful boys to see us and for arranging the fabulous agility show!

A whale of a time!

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.

As residents fell in the love with Little White and Little Grey the beautiful footage sparked residents creative side; taking out their watercolours to paint ocean scenes.

Residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!

It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary

Thank you to SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary for a brilliant event.

Sing & Smile

This week musical duo Susan & David from Sing & Smile joined us for an afternoon of 50s, 60s and 70s sing-along!

Residents joined the duo singing their hearts out to classics such as 'A Teenager in Love' and 'Amarillo'. As you can see a wonderful afternoon was had by all; the singing certainly did leave us smiling!

Snap Happy at Leeming Bar Grange

To celebrate World Photography Day, we were delighted to hear from Professional Photographer, Damian Bailey who spent some time guiding us through different photography tips and techniques.

We all had a wonderful afternoon and are excited to be taking part in the #BaileyBarchester competition where we look forward to putting all the tips and ideas learnt during the talk into practice.

Thank you, Damian Bailey Photography.

Let the fun be-gin!

At our recent residents meeting residents requested to have a gin tasting afternoon so that's exactly what we did!

Residents sampled a range of gins, and gin liqueurs, including rhubarb & ginger, strawberries & cream, parma-violets, and blackberry shimmer! The strawberries & cream was a firm favourite, so much so we had to get the big glasses out!

Our bingo queen Mavis commented the only way the day could get better would be to have a game of bingo; so out came the dabbers!

What a fab Sunday afternoon!

English National Ballet dance workshop

We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.

We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.

They took part and we didn’t realise Ballet was so meaningful, with all the different movements, and afterwards spoke of this and created their own movements and what it had meant to them.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
