Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Icelandic adventures at Leeming Bar Grange

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives.

We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

Birthday celebrations at Leeming Bar Grange

The sun shone brightly for Vera and her loved ones as we celebrated an incredible ladies 95th birthday!

The happy tears just couldn't be held back as Vera was showered with thoughtful gifts & beautiful bouquets.

As we sang Happy Birthday our lovely Head Chef Toni presented Vera with a delicious homemade chocolate cake! The day was made all the more sweet as Vera's daughter joined us all the way from Canada via video chat!

We recognise how important it is for residents and their loved ones to be able to celebrate special occasions together, particularly after the difficulties of the past year. So we love nothing more than helping loved ones come together to create memories.

A wonderful day for a wonderful woman.

Residents celebrate Armed Forces Day

To show support to our armed forces residents and staff spent time creating cards, decorations, and goodie bags; containing delicious biscuits homemade by our wonderful chef, Janet. Staff helped deliver these to our local military as a small token of our appreciation for all their hard work and dedication.

A huge thank you to all our servicemen and women; past, present, and future.

Residents have a wartime experience with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Cupcakes raise funds for Alzheimer's Society

National Cupcake Day has been a real treat at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar, where sweet-toothed staff and residents got out their aprons and mixing bowls to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The day, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, encourages groups and individuals to host a cupcake day to raise money for the charity, where funds will be put towards finding the cure for dementia. Dedicated Cupcakers have raised £2.7 million since 2016, and this year the charity hopes to raise even more to continue to support those affected by dementia.

Baking is a much-loved hobby for many people who live and work at Leeming Bar Grange. The team used the occasion to host a celebration of all things cupcake, residents and the team enjoyed decorating cupcakes and held a baking competition. After much deliberation team leader Tracey was announced as star baker for her delicious black forest cupcakes!
