What our families say

My uncle was in the care home for some time and has recently passed. However, I can hand on heart say the staff have been truly amazing. They have been kind, considerate, supportive and genuinely dedicated beyond words. The wholesome food was freshly cooked, the rooms are spacious and always very clean. There are a wide range of fun activities available on a daily basis: hook a duck, summer fairs, craft sessions, visiting singers, memory walls… and many more. I can wholeheartedly recommend this care home to families that may need a care facility. We can never thank you enough for your efforts, even 5 stars isn’t a high enough rating.

Our 88 year old brother has been a resident of Leeming Bar Grange Care Home since august 2024. Albert (Bert) is very settled in the home and although he has dementia he obviously feels safe and secure there. This is a real comfort for us and has taken a lot of worry and stress away regarding Bert. The home is very friendly and the staff are all really caring about their duties, with lots of activities for residents who are willing and able to participate. the food is of a high quality with tea, coffee and snacks available mid mornings and afternoons.

My 93-year old mother wishes to live in a care home and so having read the reviews for Leeming Bar Grange we decided to book a visit.
First impressions were that it was very clean, well looked after and welcoming. The staff were so friendly and welcoming we immediately felt at home.
There are many activities for the residents both inside and outside the home. All rooms were nicely presented and really did cater for everyone’s needs. Leeming Grange have their own transport and organise, for example, trips to the seaside for fish and chips as well as visiting local attractions.
There’s something for everyone such as crafting, choirs visiting, church on Sunday and so much more.

My mother has been in Leeming Grange Dementia home for four years so I feel I am quite knowledgeable about the care in this home. I think all the staff are very special and I have always seen the residents well looked after and the staff really care about the residents always helping them talking laughing and cuddling them which is lovely to see. The activities are great always something going on and the residents love the singers coming in. There is also animals taken in and the residents love handling them. The staff are great and have become friends of mine. Considering the very difficult task of looking after 60 people with various stages of dementia I think all the staff do their very best. I would definitely recommend anyone to admit their loved one into Leeming Grange as I have done and I would NOT have my mother anywhere that I thought was not good enough.

My mother has been in Leeming Bar Grange for a few months now . The staff are amazingly kind, competent , patient and caring. I am very impressed at the variety of activities arranged . The excercise classes , held 3 times a week, show a commitment to the long term health of the residents . The range of daily home cooked food is wonderful. I dreaded my mother ever needing a care home but Leeming Bar Grange has exceeded all my expectations and I know we could not have found a better place for Mum .

What an amazing place! My mum has been there nearly four years now and we have been so lucky to have such a wonderful team of fantastic people caring for her. As soon as you walk through the doors, the atmosphere is so happy and friendly, all the staff are truly amazing and go above and beyond to make sure that mum is loved, happy and always smiling! The activities team provide the most amazing activities every day which she loves, they understand her dementia and know how she is feeling which is so important to us. The kitchen staff provide such wonderful, delicious food and make the most amazing birthday cakes which always make the residents smile! I can't thank everyone enough from the carers, who kindly look after mum and let me know regularly how she is doing, to the maintenance man who cheers everyone up every day and drives the minibus for wonderful days out to the receptionists who mum loves to have a natter with! Last but not least the amazing Manager, Michelle who is always there for everyone making this a very special place, and as she said to us its mum's home which couldn't have summed it up better! Thank you all,
Kathryn

"My mom has been a resident of LBG Care Home for almost three years now. In that time, she has been showered with support, laughter, endless cups of tea, lovely meals, fun activities, enjoyable trips and out, and most importantly, love. It is never an easy decision to place your loved one in a care home, but from the beginning, we knew that she was safe, well looked after by wonderful staff and above all genuinely cared for. I cannot recommend this home highly enough."

"Leeming Bar Grange provides both good care and a welcoming, homely feel. Staff are genuinely caring and look after my mum with compassion and care. Any queries or concerns are taken on board and listened to, which, as a son, is very important. Thank you to Leeming Bar Grange for looking after Mum as well as you do."

"My friend was admitted after 2 months of hospital admissions and 2 care homes, which he's had to leave because of his dementia, though they had been informed of this beforehand. The welcome you gave to him and us was most warm and continued to be so throughout his stay: from the excellent, always so calm receptionists, through all the carers, housekeeping and maintenance staff and cleaners, he was met with dignity, respect, warmth and professionalism. Early on a maintenance man encouraged him so cleverly to walk (he's just stayed in bed or on a chair in other places); near the end one of the housekeeping staff sat with him voluntarily and all the staff showed compassion and professionalism. And behind them all was an excellent, very caring manager and her team delivering everything. But we must talk of my friend's end of life care, which couldn't have been better. We were constantly informed about what was happening and were able to spend many hours with him before he died, and when we were not there we knew his treatment could not be better. Because of you all he had a good, peaceful death, culminating in the beautiful way in which you arranged for his body to leave. Thank you to all of you for everything you've done for our friend during his last days."

"In the 12 months since the new home manager was put in place Leeming Bar Grange has improved in many directions the whole team work very well as a unit. General care is excellent, cleanliness is outstanding. My mum has resided at Leeming for over 10 years which is testament to her care."

"My Mum is so settled in this wonderful environment, the staff are all caring and attentive - some staff go above and beyond! The activities are well planned, varied and frequent, mum particularly likes the animals that visit the home and her trips out in the mini bus. Management always have time to listen to us. Mum is staying here now for the rest of her life, she considers it home and is very happy."

"My father spent a short spell of respite care at Barchester Leeming Bar Grange over Christmas. The whole experience was very positive with a personable and helpful team and excellent leadership from the Manager. The pre-assessment exemplified the approach here, with great understanding shown and a very realistic 'can do' attitude. The home itself is quietly situated and well maintained with effective and diligent housekeeping, underpinned by a real sense of pride. Whilst not actually sampling any food myself, the Christmas dinner looked and smelt delicious! Many thanks to all the team for their hard work, sense of humour and dedication, very much appreciated."

"Room showed to the family on the evening before arrival was not ready. Bathroom needed work to make it safe, smelled of urine and nothing like room showed when looking around. My mother was given the room that we had been shown around after my sister spoke to management. We were warned that there could potentially be problems with the lady in opposite room due to her wanting room empty. There have been a few incidents but we are hoping staff will intervene and the problem will be sorted. The staff are very caring and as visitors, we are made to feel very welcome. Surprise with top up after social services told us it was around £50."

"My mum has been at this home for five years. She has always been treated with respect and cared for really well. Staff are friendly and helpful if we have any problems. Food and snacks are always appealing and tasty. We like the fact that we can visit at any time of the day and are free to use the kitchen to make tea etc as and when we please. The staff work in a very challenging environment and do so with the utmost patience and care."

"As a family, we are very pleased with the care that our mother receives at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home. She has been there for about three and a half years and we have had no problems at all. The staff even though there has been quite a turnover, have all been wonderful with Mum and she is much more content than when she lived at home. Any health issues have been discussed with us and we have been involved at all stages in discussion about her care."

"The staff are excellent and are caring for the residents in their care. As I visit regularly to see what is going I am concerned about the staff welfare. There never seems to be enough staff on the floor, especially at nighttime - hence the staff that are working more hours, not able to get holidays taken and therefore, are worn out. It seems to me that staff are leaving to go to other care homes and I can only think it is due to being understaffed or for more pay. The home itself is brilliant and modern, and I am looking forward to meeting the new manager."

"My auntie was quite poorly when she came to Leeming Bar Grange and we can't fault any part of her care. All the staff were very helpful and supportive and made her last few days as comfortable as possible. They also made all her family welcome to visit at any time. On the sad night that she passed away, one of the carers kept up CPR until the ambulance arrived which gave us time to spend with her. That same carer also attended the funeral."

"Visiting my husband with dementia I have been very impressed with the running and accommodation in general. We could not have picked a better home. The staff have been so helpful and cheerful and nothing is too much for them. My husband has been very well cared for and his room is always clean and tidy. In fact I was so happy with the care home that I would have liked for him to stay but he wanted to be back home. I am hoping to arrange more respite in the future. Thanking you."

"Generally, my experience has been good at the home. There has however been a number of occasions when I have been unable to find care staff to help my dad and I have heard staff saying how short staffed they are. I have raised concerns about the quality of food and I still feel this is an area which needs further improvement along with an increase in staff who want to care for those suffering from dementia."

"My husband has been in Leeming Bar Grange Care Home for just over two years, and during that time he has been cared for extremely well. The carers are considerate and kind to him and treat him with respect. The home itself is clean and fresh, and the residents too, are kept clean and tidy, with clothes being regularly changed and laundered. Articles do occasionally go missing, socks being the main culprit. The food, generally is good and well cooked, although sometimes lacking in variety. I would certainly recommend Leeming Bar Grange to anyone who is considering putting a relative into care."

"He has now been residing in the home for 2 months and unfortunately seems to have become less mobile than he was, due to his illness. He has been cared for by the staff at Leeming Bar Grange in a very caring and professional way. They have afforded him his dignity at all times. When we visit, he always looks clean and cared for. We have always found the staff to be very friendly, open and honest with us regarding his welfare. The home is always kept clean and smells fresh. The bedrooms are well equipped. The activities calendar offers a wide variety of entertainment. The home is always nice and warm and has a homely atmosphere about. During his stay we, the family, have had a peace of mind, knowing he is with people who are well equipped to care for his needs. He is in his 93rd year and has become very frail and confused now. We would be very happy for him to become a permanent resident here, as we believe Leeming Bar Grange is a high achiever in the care of the elderly."

"We were looking for a month's respite care for my 92-year-old aunt whilst my husband had a heart operation. On first viewing of Leeming Bar Grange, we were impressed by the friendly atmosphere and professionalism of the staff, the cleanliness and the way in which the residents looked cared for. When my husband suffered a stroke the staff were amazing and could not have been more helpful, so I could concentrate on my husband. My aunt stayed for 3 months and said it was very comfortable and everyone was very friendly. She has vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration and a colostomy bag. She is also notoriously difficult to please and can be quite awkward. The staff handled her very well. She also needed a routine operation during her stay. When I took her for the pre-assessment the nurse was very impressed with the information the home provided and also with the condition of her skin. I felt welcome to visit at any time. If we need respite care in the future, we will certainly return."

"I was a respite care client for a month. The staff are wonderful, and they create the warm heart of this care home. They are universally kind, helpful, informative, and professionally skilled. The whole establishment runs smoothly - the staff help each other immediately when they see it is needed. During my stay, there were several occasions when I was given unexpected extra help. The food is excellent, with well designed and balanced menus. All this creates a very happy atmosphere. I would be happy to go back when I next want respite care, or eventually long-term care."

"Staff exceptionally and unvaryingly kind to residents which is the most important thing of all Any problems are trivial but the quality of the care (and of the food) provided is evidential by mum's condition. She's fitter and calmly cheerful, very different from 4 years ago. She has hardly any falls now and those are very minor. Previously, she fell often and was in hospital several times. This is a tribute to Leeming Bar Grange Care Home."

Staff are very friendly, they all care about the residents, know each resident by their first names. Activities are excellent, particularly the visits from local school children which stimulates residents with dementia/Alzheimers. The only thing is "where do all his socks go?""
