What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Leeming Bar Grange is a superbly presented care home in every respect. The decor and fittings are first-class and the home resembles a very good quality hotel. The fabric of the home is matched by the level of service provided to both residents and their families. There is an ambience of friendliness and attentiveness on entering the building and this is reflected in the high quality of care provided. I have no hesitation in recommending Leeming Bar Grange to anyone who is seeking a luxury, caring environment for a loved one."

"We live a long way from Yorkshire and so are unable to visit my mum very frequently, but when we do we are greeted at the home as if we were only there yesterday. Having worked in the care sector for over 50 years, I can see the love and care being given to my mum by a very professional caring staff. Mum has had a rough 12 months or more, but we can see that she is happy and being very well cared for. I especially like the social media postings as that is proof for me that she is happy and safe. I will never be able to thank you enough all for the care you give my mum, but here’s a little thank you."

"The staff go above and beyond to ensure residents settle, are supported to engage in activities, and have the best quality of life. The staff are friendly, know residents as individuals. There is an amazing activities coordinator who ensures residents are involved on a variety of activities. I really didn't believe my mum would settle as well and as quickly as she did. It's all thanks to the efforts of the staff."

"My mum was a resident at Leeming Bar Grange for three and a bit years. She passed away on Christmas Eve. I have previously commented on the wonderful care Mum received throughout her time, but wanted to comment specifically on the end-of-life care. I live in France and have always been dependent on the excellent communication of the staff. When Mum was taken ill shortly before Christmas, I was kept up to date sensitively but also realistically. I got myself to LBG as quickly as possible and was able to spend the last 2 days of Mum's life at her side. Mum was treated with the greatest respect and dignity until the end. Even though it was Christmas and everyone was extremely busy, they all had time for me - making sure I had what I needed, keeping me company, checking in emotionally. I felt totally supported and cared for by every member of staff day and night. Thank you so much to everyone for making a horrendous time bearable."

"I visit each week as a volunteer with a national therapy dogs organisation and one of my registered therapy dogs. I have been visiting for nine years and always receive a warm and loving welcome from the team of activities coordinators, carers and management. We are carefully guided round the wonderful home and visit residents in their rooms or lounges. Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff and they attend to each resident’s needs during our visits. The home is filled with smiles and joy from the hard-working activities team who organise daily activities to enrich the residents’ lives. Visiting entertainers, animals, music, games and motor skills activities are often seen round the home and the happiness it brings each resident is evident in their smiles."

"A homely home, genuinely caring staff, from cleaners to the manager and all in between. Excellent activities and social interaction bespoke to the residents' likes and wishes. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. I feel completely rest assured that my mum is very well looked after in all aspects of her life and if there are any issues, health concerns, I am kept up to date. I recommend Barchester Leeming Bar Grange Care Home to everyone I encounter. Thank you for all you do, it is much appreciated."

"After eight and a half years, my mum reached end of life. She was very well looked after and was happy throughout. In spite of a high turnover of managers, there is a hard core who remain loyal and have offered their 'love' and 'care' for Mum. This core of staff instills expectations amongst other staff and so I believe it is an excellent home. At the end of life, my mum was treated with utmost respect and dignity and the night staff were diligent in their duties and work very hard. I cannot thank all the staff enough for their care. Thank you."

"My husband was admitted to Leeming Bar Grange Care Home earlier this month for two weeks respite care as I was struggling with my health and finding it difficult to cope. My husband was greeted by name by all the staff on arrival and immediately felt at ease. The facilities and rooms at the home are of a very high standard and the food menus varied and nutritious. My husband soon settled which was a comfort to me as we had never been apart for over fifty years. All the staff are extremely caring and helpful and the residents always seem to be very happy and mix well. I felt reassured that my husband would be very well taken care of and indeed he was and friends and relatives who visited him in my absence all said they had been made very welcome and served tea and refreshments during their visit. I would not hesitate for my husband to spend more time at this home if it should become necessary in the future."

"When it became clear Mum could no longer manage at home it was an extremely anxious time, exacerbated by being in the early stages of the pandemic. Mum was made so welcome and the team took time to quickly understand all her needs. This was so reassuring for me as I live abroad. Mum has lived at Leeming Bar Grange for 3 years now and it has genuinely become her home. The rooms and communal areas are decorated to a very high standard, the food nutritious and the varied activities often make me wish I was there! But what makes Leeming Bar Grange stand out from the crowd is the care, patience and empathy shown by all the wonderful staff led by the ever-cheerful manager. It truly is a place of joy."

"What an amazing place! My mum has been there for nearly four years now, and we have been so lucky to have such a wonderful team of fantastic people caring for her. As soon as you walk through the doors, the atmosphere is so happy and friendly, all the staff are truly amazing and go above and beyond to make sure that Mum is loved, happy and always smiling! The activities team provide the most amazing activities every day, which she loves; they understand her dementia and know how she is feeling, which is so important to us. The kitchen staff provide delicious food and make amazing birthday cakes, which always make the residents smile! I can't thank everyone enough, from the carers, who kindly look after Mum and let me know regularly how she is doing, to the maintenance man who cheers everyone up every day and drives the minibus for wonderful days out, the receptionists who Mum loves to have a natter with and the amazing manager who looks after everyone, making this a very special place!"

"My mum has lived at Leeming Bar Grange since 2019. We chose this home mainly for the activities, as my mum needed stimulation most days. When we looked around the home, we immediately knew it was the right place for Mum, it was so clean and friendly. The activity staff are brilliant. Having the minibus has been fabulous as Mum really loves a ride out. We have not been disappointed. All the staff have been excellent with her, making her feel special. The manager has been brilliant, she says every time we talk to her or her staff, that this is Mum's home and that means a great deal to us."

"Our mother has been a resident here for over a year now and absolutely loves living here! She originally came for respite care but didn't want to leave when the time came for her to do so. All the staff here are amazing, so caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. In Mum's own words:- I couldn't have found anywhere better!"

"An excellent stimulating environment, genuinely caring, respectful and person-centred care, making my mum not only feel welcomed, but a valued resident from day one. Varied activities both in-house and out and about, using the home's minibus. I cannot praise the staff enough from the manager, carers, administration, kitchen, repair and cleaning team, you do a fantastic job and it is very much appreciated by both my mum and me. Thank you, just isn’t enough."

"My mum arrived at Leeming Bar Grange after a short stay in hospital. She was extremely nervous, had no confidence walking, scared of falling. Within a couple of days, she was walking with her frame with one carer and joining in activities. Her smile and her confidence returned. Staff are very patient and understanding when given person-centred care, which helps Mum's anxiousness. Mum has gained weight every week as encouraged to sit in the lounge with fellow residents and enjoy her meals again. Again, staff very understanding."

"My mum is resident and care is of the uppermost quality, plenty of activities to give stimulus, takes a whole weight off your mind knowing your loved ones are in safe hands, clean and respected, well fed and happy. Communication is very good between staff and family, the Teddy Bears picnic was a great success, not only for residents, but family as well, a most enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to you all."

"My mum-in-law was admitted to Leaming Bar after a hospital stay. We didn't have many options as to where he would go due to Covid, however, she was made so welcome, cared for and she was happy from day one. To see her cared for and looked after was a huge relief for the family. The staff have been more than helpful to mum-in-law, but also the family, reassuring us as tall times nothing is a trouble."

"My husband stayed for respite in the New year. Despite the next full lockdown happening a few days before, it was a welcome arrival, helping him to his room, as I was understandably not allowed to settle him in as expected. They also provided a Covid test before this instead of having to go to a testing center. He was offered his first vaccination the next day with other residents, which I was impressed with. The rooms are modern, well designed for the purpose and with good facilities. I have only seen the communal rooms virtually due to Covid precautions, but the atmosphere looks light, airy, spacious and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful, going out of their way to check that residents have got what they need, often including stopping for a chat if they have time. A liaison nurse from our GP was able to sort out some medical issues while he was there which was helpful. His son and daughter were pleased with a visit they made remarking on how well it was organised."

"Staff are caring and have shown lots of love and care to Mum. They have remained positive throughout these difficult months due to the virus. Mum continues to be happy, well cared for and enjoying her fifth year in the home. The gardens and grounds are pleasant. One recommendation would be to attach a canopy next to the conservatory so that relatives visiting do not have to get wet during our controlled visits. Thank you everybody."

"I go to see my brother on most days. I went on Saturday 2nd February. He was frozen in his bedroom. They said they would get someone. They said they would be there within four hours. I went again the next day and he was frozen again. They said they would get someone within four hours. I don't think that is right. There should have been a heater or something. On the 3rd February, they moved him out of his bedroom and put a new bathroom in. They moved him back into his bedroom before completed. Everything was alright until Barchester moved in. I do hope it is going to improve."

"Both my parents moved into the care home within a few weeks of each other (March 2018/April 2018). The first few months in the home were difficult for both my parents, who found it very difficult to adjust to life in a home. My mum was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and needed extra support. Both my parents were encouraged to join in with a number of weekly activities, especially the singing which they really enjoyed and life became a little easier. Sadly, my mum passed away in July, the staff that looked after Mum have been incredibly supportive to my dad, brother and myself. Dad has been greatly affected by Mum's death and I am grateful for the support and care that he is receiving by members of the staff at Brighterkind. He is closely monitored and my brother and I are updated regularly regarding his progress. Communication between the home and myself has improved over the last few months."

"The staff all appear well trained in dealing with dementia and don't give up when my husband is uncooperative. The interior is a little tired, but I can overlook that if the care is good. I admire the staff for giving the appearance of calm, even on a difficult day! The food is excellent and more is always a choice. Drinks (as in juice) need more monitoring. Despite these observations, I am happy my husband is here."

"My mum went into the home for respite care while we installed a more user-friendly bathroom in her apartment and while she was a little apprehensive for a couple of days she soon settled, joining in the craft activities, singing when the choir came in and dancing. Mum is 91 and was diagnosed with Alzheimers at the beginning of the year. When she came home she said she would go back again. She was well looked after, the food was good and everyone was friendly and kind to her and she made a friend who we will be going back to visit."

"Visiting my husband with dementia I have been very impressed with the running and accommodation in general. We could not have picked a better home. The staff have been so helpful and cheerful and nothing is too much for them. My husband has been very well cared for and his room is always clean and tidy. In fact I was so happy with the care home that I would have liked for him to stay but he wanted to be back home. I am hoping to arrange more respite in the future. Thanking you."

"He has now been residing in the home for 2 months and unfortunately seems to have become less mobile than he was, due to his illness. He has been cared for by the staff at Leeming Bar Grange in a very caring and professional way. They have afforded him his dignity at all times. When we visit, he always looks clean and cared for. We have always found the staff to be very friendly, open and honest with us regarding his welfare. The home is always kept clean and smells fresh. The bedrooms are well equipped. The activities calendar offers a wide variety of entertainment. The home is always nice and warm and has a homely atmosphere about. During his stay we, the family, have had a peace of mind, knowing he is with people who are well equipped to care for his needs. He is in his 93rd year and has become very frail and confused now. We would be very happy for him to become a permanent resident here, as we believe Leeming Bar Grange is a high achiever in the care of the elderly."

"My husband has been in Leeming Bar Grange Care Home for just over two years, and during that time he has been cared for extremely well. The carers are considerate and kind to him and treat him with respect. The home itself is clean and fresh, and the residents too, are kept clean and tidy, with clothes being regularly changed and laundered. Articles do occasionally go missing, socks being the main culprit. The food, generally is good and well cooked, although sometimes lacking in variety. I would certainly recommend Leeming Bar Grange to anyone who is considering putting a relative into care."

There has however been a number of occasions when I have been unable to find care staff to help my dad and I have heard staff saying how short staffed they are. "My auntie was quite poorly when she came to Leeming Bar Grange and we can't fault any part of her care. All the staff were very helpful and supportive and made her last few days as comfortable as possible. They also made all her family welcome to visit at any time. "The staff are excellent and are caring for the residents in their care. As I visit regularly to see what is going I am concerned about the staff welfare. There never seems to be enough staff on the floor, especially at nighttime - hence the staff that are working more hours, not able to get holidays taken and therefore, are worn out. It seems to me that staff are leaving to go to other care homes and I can only think it is due to being understaffed or for more pay. The home itself is brilliant and modern, and I am looking forward to meeting the new manager."

"Room showed to the family on the evening before arrival was not ready. Bathroom needed work to make it safe, smelled of urine and nothing like room showed when looking around. My mother was given the room that we had been shown around after my sister spoke to management. We were warned that there could potentially be problems with the lady in opposite room due to her wanting room empty. There have been a few incidents but we are hoping staff will intervene and the problem will be sorted. The staff are very caring and as visitors, we are made to feel very welcome. Surprise with top up after social services told us it was around £50."

"The staff are all very caring and the food is good. I do find that communication is a problem. It would be very helpful to have a nominated key worker for each resident. As regards activities they are limited at the moment upstairs. It would be very nice if music could be played in the sitting room as often happens downstairs. Armchair exercises would also be desirable on a regular basis. In the summer it would be good if residents could be taken outside to sit under the nice umbrellas or walk around the excellent gardens. It is nice to see the windows upstairs are usually open in fine weather."

"Leeming Bar Grange is on first impression a clean, hygienic, modern and well-constructed care home. The staff are very welcoming operating an "open door" policy which is very reassuring, we are welcome to visit at any time we wish which helps fit in with work hours and other family commitments. My Dad has a very nice room with an en suite and everything is maintained to a high standard and kept immaculately clean on a daily basis. The room is very well equipped for his particular needs, taking into account his safety and comfort. The staff are very friendly, helpful and polite to our family and very caring of my father and they also are keen to maintain dignity and to always treat my father with respect. He is showered, shaved and dressed each morning and changed if necessary during the day. The staff are very positive and enjoy a joke with my father which has been a great help in settling him into the home. At first, he was very subdued but the staff soon improved his humour."

"From our original look around, we were impressed with the facilities and friendliness of the staff. The resident has been happy here for respite care and appreciated the opportunity to see use the garden and move around the building in his wheelchair. We hope he may come again."

"Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice and kept clean. Each room has an ensuite. The food is lovely. Sometimes have to wait quite a while to get doors to the garden open as staff are busy."

"Mum has been at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home for just over two years. We have been continually impressed by the level of care and kindness shown to her. Staff are always prepared to go the extra mile. We have specific praise for the activities provided. If we have one small concern it is about personal hygiene, particularly nails they are sometimes dirty."

"Having spent three years in Leeming Bar Grange my mother passed away in their care. They could not have been more caring or loving towards her. The care home truly became her home. As a visitor we always felt comfortable and knew she was well cared for and treated as an individual person."

"Staff exceptionally and unvaryingly kind to residents which is the most important thing of all Any problems are trivial but the quality of the care (and of the food) provided is evidential by mum's condition. She's fitter and calmly cheerful, very different from 4 years ago. She has hardly any falls now and those are very minor. Previously, she fell often and was in hospital several times. This is a tribute to Leeming Bar Grange Care Home."

"I was a respite care client for a month. The staff are wonderful, and they create the warm heart of this care home. They are universally kind, helpful, informative, and professionally skilled. The whole establishment runs smoothly - the staff help each other immediately when they see it is needed. During my stay, there were several occasions when I was given unexpected extra help. The food is excellent, with well designed and balanced menus. All this creates a very happy atmosphere. I would be happy to go back when I next want respite care, or eventually long-term care."

"We were looking for a month's respite care for my 92-year-old aunt whilst my husband had a heart operation. On first viewing of Leeming Bar Grange, we were impressed by the friendly atmosphere and professionalism of the staff, the cleanliness and the way in which the residents looked cared for. When my husband suffered a stroke the staff were amazing and could not have been more helpful, so I could concentrate on my husband. My aunt stayed for 3 months and said it was very comfortable and everyone was very friendly. She has vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration and a colostomy bag. She is also notoriously difficult to please and can be quite awkward. The staff handled her very well. She also needed a routine operation during her stay. When I took her for the pre-assessment the nurse was very impressed with the information the home provided and also with the condition of her skin. I felt welcome to visit at any time. If we need respite care in the future, we will certainly return."
